Affordable C14 Fork Rebuild Kit

Hey Y'all,

I am rebuilding the front forks on my '08, or rather, I am going to have my local shop rebuild them (after I get them removed).I want to buy the parts that I want put into the forks and avoid the shop surcharge.  Of course I have checked out some of the options bandied about here in the Forum--Ohlins cartridges, Traxxion, to name a couple--and have found them WAY out of my budget.

As I understand it, we are talking seals, springs and some fork oil.  Am I missing something?  Can't I get those OEM parts in a kit for some $200?

And very importantly, WHERE?

Thanks in advance.

Howdy Steampunk.  Although I may not be directly addressing your question....I do have a couple thoughts;

If you are just looking to refresh the seals, dust wipes, and oil, you can source OEM parts from a variety of online sources.  Places like Ron Ayers, RevZilla, PartsZilla, etc. may be helpful.  You may also be able to look at some of the online pricing and share that with your local dealer and see if they would be willing to come off MSRP on the pricing....most will do this so they can make a little money (rather than none).

If you are looking to upgrade the fork internals in addition to the service you are having performed, you have the options you listed (Ohlins, Traxxion, RacTech, etc.) but there are shops that will rework the shim stack in the forks, change the springs, etc. based on your weight and riding style.  I used a company in Idaho last year to service my forks and they did a nice job.  Here is a link to their site:  http://www.adventurepowersports.us/home.html

Hope that helps!!
