I've seen this on other C10s.  Sole of boot touches exhaust behind rider peg and leaves residue.  Any tips or tricks to get it off?

Use an oven cleaner such as Easy Off.  I have that problem when I don't wear my riding boots.

Simi chrome and elbow grease works good. Also Amway makes a product called "Bug and Tar Remover" that works.

Never use Simichrome on chrome, your chrome will become simi chrome! Just lately I used a propane torch on low to melt the boot residue and carefully scraped the heavist part off with a knife, then the rest with 000 steel wool while still lightly heating the boot marks. Allways make sure whatever touches chrome is softer than the chrome. This worked very well for me, and took very little elbow grease. The picture you posted is black chrome, my 2002 is chrome chrome.

Never had a problem using simichrome, but I guess your mileage will vary. Different strokes for different folks.
