Aux light attachment to front struts.

I am a big fan of having my cheap Ebay lights mounted on the front struts (Low). Came up with this idea after cracking a front fairing by using the mounting hole. These work really well Very solid with lots of fine adjustments.

Looks good.  Did you make those brackets?  If not, where did you buy them?  I'd be interested in a pair, myself.

Ditto that, curious to know where you got those.

I too, tried to use my fender mount bolts and cracked my front fender .....BADly.

Nice work.

Made them from 4130 .80 thick steel. You can probably mount most lights on them, I just like the 10W ebay spot lights. Piece of steel, torch, and something to wrap them around to get the correct curve. Went up one grip on the 2 bolts and used a locking nut on the back side of the mount that supports the light. Comes out of the fender just right with good clearance on everything.
Once they are mounted on fender support you can adjust everything with fender on. See pic.

Hey man! Is there any way you could make me a pair of those? I will compensate you obviously...

Looking into make a few sets. Let me see how much time it will take to make a few sets for folks who are interested.

That would be ahhhhhhh-mazing. They look like a better option that the super expensive Denali mounts. Please let me know your estimation ASAP...I need to mount some aux lights in the near future pending your answer. Thanks again

Somewhat depends on what lights are to be mounted

Of course...I'll be going the cheapie eBay/Amazon route...have done that with every set of lights I've owned to-date and never been disappointed...Depending on price, I'm in!

Materials will be in Monday and should have 5 or 10 sets done within a week or so. Do you all want me to supply the longer bolts with them as a ready to fo set in flat black. And a #10 hole drilled for light attach? I can then post a shipped price.

Thanks

Do you have a ballpark price in mind?

I like the idea of black hardware, but I typically use stainless because the humidity in NC eats everything else.

I'm in for a set two sets as well. :beerchug:  I'd prefer that you included the longer bolts so that I don't have to chase 'em down.

I have gotten a number of messages about wanting a set of these so here is the deal.

Details on the brackets.

Made from .80 thick 4130 Aircraft steel.
I make each one by hand and are test fit on my C14.
They are drilled for the 2 mounting holes and a single mount hole for the light attach.
Bead blasted then primed, then painted with rattle can Flat black paint.
I will include 4 plated bolts to replace the 4 original mounting bolts (need a slightly longer grip).
You must mount everything with Blue loctite.
On the bolt that mounts the light I used a low profile lock nut. You could also use loctite but the nut must not be to deep. There is enough room for it between the mount bracket and strut but not much more.
You will have to take the front fender off to mount the bracket but after that you can do everything from the outside with the fender on.

They are solid and have no movement to them, They work great. If you get a pair and do not like them for any reason just send them back at your cost and I will refund all you money minus shipping.
The material gets here tomorrow and I will make 10-15 sets all at once. Should take me 7-10 days to ship them..

Cost for a set (with 4 bolts) is $45 for a pair plus shipping. So I am just going to call it $49 delivered in the CONUS. If you want a pair just PM your shipping info and what you want.I am making these by hand in a basement. And I will not be offended in the least if you do not want them. Like I said if you get them and you think they are not worth it, no probelm just send them back. I will not take any money till they are ready to ship.

If you have any questions just shoot me a email.

Thanks, Lee

I am in for a pair as well!

Very nice job on them!

Which lights are people planning on using with these?

Lee, which ones did you use?

I used these:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MDJK1AJ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I have them on 3 different bikes. Never had one fail (even on the bouncy end of the forks) and I think they look great. Lots of light for recognition. I use the "Spot" lights not the "Flood" lights.

Should have the brackets ready to ship by next weekend. Only 4 slots left.

Thanks, Lee
Thanks for the link. I have Mondo Moto MM-10’s and like the bright white pattern. When I saw these, I figured what the heck, for that price, I’ll buy them as a just in case I ever need them replacement.  I got the Flood lens version, to match the MM-10’s. These guys are actually better made, a bit heavier, and the lens is slightly larger. The leads are only about 10 inches long, but should splice right into the existing Mondo-Moto switch and wiring.  I’m glad I picked them up. Now for the better mount option in this thread......

Update,

All the mounts are coming along well. Should be painted this weekend and shipped this Monday. Switching to gloss black from flat black. Cost of brackets might be a little less as well. Had enough interest to make a fixture tool to produce them quicker. I will email everyone who has contacted me soon with info.

Thanks for all the interest.

Please send me your shipping Info in a PM. I think I will have 2 left.

Thanks you.

Lee
If indeed you has two left, I'll take the last one. If not, it's not a problem.

pm sent......

All brackets are ready to ship.

Sorry for the delay. I think all the brackets I made are spoken for, 13 sets with bolts is what I ended up with. They came out really nice, better as I went along. Sending out PM to all that sent me a PM wanting a set. If you have and do not hear from me today then send me another please. Final price is slightly less then I estimated. Shipping was a little less then my estimate. Delivered price with 4 longer bolts is $46 Paypal Friend.  If you get them and do not think they are worth it I will be happy to refund your money.

If anyone back out or if I have extra I will post it.

Thanks

Couple of instructions to note:.

The attach bracket on the back of the fork casting (part the fairing threads into) is aluminum. Start the bolts by hand they are easy to cross thread. Use blue (med) loctite in the bolts.
Other then that they are straight forward but if you have any questions email me or call me. All PM's going out have my info.  Please let me know how they work.

Thanks, Lee

I would jump on the two remaining sets since no telling if they are coming around again.

What torque value do you suggest for the mounting bolts?

Tracking shows that mine arrive today.  So no torque values for the mounting bolts?  Just good and tight?

Your nice instructions shipped with the brackets explained the bolts. Tighten to specs and use locktite. To me that will be good and tight.

Got my brackets today, MIGHT get them installed tomorrow (probably not).

For those that have extra LED lights on their bike, relay or direct wire?

I did my lights direct to my fuse block. Needed an on off switch that my state inspection seems to require. Mondo motor provided a complete kit including the water proof switch.

The lights I used 10W do not require a relay. I picked up power off of the connector on the left side in front of the Glove box (2012). Ran it thru a "marine" waterproof switch so I can turn them off if I wanted. I really never turn them off. If I did it again I would just locate the switch kind of hidden somewhere near the glove box for the rare time I turned them off. I put mine in the "panel" and is a waste.

I could not fine a torque value in the book on the 2 bolts for the fairing. Nice and tight but do not over do it.

I installed the light brackets yesterday.  They are exactly as Lee described, if not better.  The lights and the lower fork assembly are now one solid unit.  There is virtually no flex, and they look like they came from the factory.  Nice job Lee!  :beerchug: :great:

Thank you 4bikes glad they worked for you as well.

I have had more interest then I thought and will make one more final batch for anyone that wants a set. Just send ma a note that you want a set ans when they are ready (will take a couple of weeks in between work) I will post it on this thread.

Thanks, Lee

For everyone that has sent me a PM, should have some ready to go next week. Thanks for your patience, work has been killing me.

Lee

I installed mine.  The brackets work great, I recommend it!  I like this location for the lights, does not detract from looks of the bike.

Received my brackets a few days ago. They look good and, ayde I will get them mounted someday soon , thanks!

I have a number of brackets that are being painted on Tuesday should be ready to ship a couple days after. I will send everyone who has sent me a PM in the next couple days. Thanks for your patience. Have enough for everyone that has asked and a few more. Thanks, Lee

2nd Batch ready to ship on Thursday. I believe I have PM all that have contacted me. If you have not heard from me and want a set, PM me. Thanks for all the patience.
I have some extras if anyone else decides they would like a set.

Thanks, Lee

Guys, you absolutely HAVE to buy these---don't waste money on the denials or anything else, these are incredible. I've been using them with the exact same lights he has, and it's a fantastic setup... Well done!

Any suggestions on where to get decent wire for hooking these up? Home Depot's wire selection sucks and there are no Radio Shacks around these days.

Your local autoparts store should stock an assortment of hookup wire.  Not the best selection and certainly not the best price.....but would work..

I now have a set of these brackets I can't use. I bought them before engaging the brain to consider if they would work on Ohlins forks. They will not.

I will donate them for an OTP auction provided they bring in enough to make it worth while for me to ship from Germany at my own expense.

Get in touch with Hans Ove Goerts, in the GCE club there, and arrange for one of the travellers to bring them over here, or even offer them up there, to our sister club, for auction... as you are already there.. lucky bastich..... :beerchug:

Check the OTP thread, and contact one or more of our pals....there....

Lucky indeed!!!  :)  Still trying to get the C14 approved by the German TUV (DMV). Went it to Munich (Munchin) for the inspection. The motorcycle specialist forgot our appointment and wasn't there. His supervisor did the inspection but wouldn't issue paperwork until the specialist returns from vacation. Basically anything not OEM must have EU certification, in writing, in your possession and for the specific year and model vehicle.  . These Germans sure are tuff folks. But they do have great beer. :beerchug:
Things in question; S/S brake lines, Clearwater lights, Dunlop Q3+ tires, Ohlins forks and I need a rear facing red reflector.

I'll probably give the light brackets to Hans for auction here. Thanks.

Is this the red rear facing reflector you need?  RonAyers.com has it for ~$15.  Shipping is the killer.  I'll pm you a couple of "local" parts dealers that should be helpful.

Got mine mounted and wired up today. The spots (the ones recommend from Amazon) are easily pointed. I did have to get a shorter bolt for mounting the lights brackt to these brackets as it was too long and hitting the shock housing.

First day riding to work after getting the lights mounted up. I can say, more people made room for me as I was splitting lanes than normal. It was noticeable how many more did, so the lights work! I may adjust them down a little more, but they are not pointed high.

Thanks for making the brackets!

Any new guys out there just looking … I've got a set of these light brackets on my bike and really like them.  :)

Thanks n3nman for making such a great product!  :beerchug:

Another Satisfied customer here... I must say the whole transaction with Lee was great. The quality of the brackets are 2nd to none. I even used the amazon links for the harness and lights. The whole installation took a little over 2hrs...

I'll take a set if still available. n3nman sent you a PM.

I'm currently using the fender mount holes for mine. Works OK but these brackets would be much better. I do the same thing, use cheap lights off Amazon for DRL.

Pete

Hi Pete,

Be careful using those holes for lights. Many of us have cracked fenders from that. Ask me how i know. That is how i came to make these. Pm replied to. Thanks

Thanks Lee, looking forward to getting your brackets.

After using these brackets made by n3man for about 18 months now, I give them a five-star recommendation.  These are sturdy and place the lights in a great spot.  I have a pair of cheap Amazon 10watt LED spot lights and these work well.

:iagree:

The brackets are very well made and work great. Very solid and no flex or bouncing.

Looking to see if there are any sets hanging around. Bought a new bike and need a set of fork mounts

I have a set that I never mounted (they will not bolt up to the Ohlin's forks that I have on my C14). I'll have to try to find them in the shop.

I also never mounted the set I bought.... Mine have made it across the border to Canada if anyone is interested. PM me if intetrested.

Materials will be in Monday and should have 5 or 10 sets done within a week or so. Do you all want me to supply the longer bolts with them as a ready to fo set in flat black. And a #10 hole drilled for light attach? I can then post a shipped price.

Yes, pls. Turnkey kit would be tops!
Standing by to hear more!

Does he not make them anymore?

I just now realized that this is a 2018 thread. OMG, my eyesight is failing fast. Phone screens are not doing any of us any favors. LOL

I'm interested in a set of these if anyone is still fabricating them, or has a set they've removed and want to part with.

I use white hyperlites with 15lb velcro mounted to underneath side of air intakes.

I like the brackets. Not sure how much these lights add to illuminating the way which is my objective . Not to concerned about making myself more noticeable. By

This may or may not be legal in your state, but right behind where these are mounted is a reflector and bracket. I have removed my reflector and it seems like that bracket would be a good spot to mount a light.

This spot has been used before and depending on which light is mounted, the reflector bracket failed after a period of time.
So if someone wants to use that location, the bolt location is fine to use, but it's recommended that they use something more robust to space out the light from the fork.

Have had a few requests for these so I have 10 sets if anyone wants. They are $46 shipped to you CONUS. 2 mounts and 4 longer bolts.
I think I have sold more than 25 sets with no complaints. Mine have been on for over 3 years are perfect for me.

Thanks.

I think I bought one of your first sets. Mine are still perfect. Great and solid solution for the lights. Thanks for making them.

Some have asked about the lights. I used these.

They are all over the place Ebay, Amazon, Etc. I think they are all the same. The only point to look out for is if you want "Spot" or "Flood" ;ens.
I like the spot (Lens is clear no diffraction to it). I think those are better for recognition. Also great if you lose a headlight you can still get home.

As far as hook up. I did mine a while back so maybe someone else can chime in as well. I used a "Acc hook up" on the left side up front that Kawi provides. It is keyed. I did run mine thru a hidden switch in case I wanted to switch them off. though I never have.

Hope this helps.

Sign me up. I bought a new bike so I need them.....BAD. 12 K miles on the other set with no complaints.

That bolt hole just forward of the fork tube works well, It holds the fender on. You need a longer bolt and a 1/2" long spacer and that's it.
