Tickets are now for sale for the BMWNEF Winter Rally.  **JAN 18-20, 2019**

COG has regularly made an appearance at this Rally, and for good reason.
The BMWNEF crew put together a great weekend event at Camp Blanding,
in Starke, FL.  Rally Central has a full schedule all weekend.  Dinner is included
both Friday and Saturday nights, with a great Steak dinner on Saturday night
for the banquet.

There is a swap meet, a vendor area with a lot of great merchandise, guest speakers.
Off road guided tours of the base... the list goes on.

This is my 5th time going....  and as a Winter Rally, camping has usually
been far more a challenge than the surrounding roads.

This is NOT a COG event.  If interested, please visit the link below:

https://bmwnef.org/rally

(Don't sit on your laurels too long, attendance is limited, and this usually fills up quick)

Well damn, looks like I will miss next years Coldest Rally

Seems SWMBO has other plans for us that weekend, already cast in stone. I guess I better go see the grandchildren, and no, the dates can't be changed  :'(

You boys and girls have fun and stay warm

Do you have to wear a Moto safety vest when on base?

An EXCELLENT question, Kurt.

As the event is held on a military base, we ALL must comply with the rules when on the base.
This means in addition to wearing ATTGAT when on base, a reflective vest is also required.

Base reguations minimum requirements for safety gear include long sleeve shirt or jacket,
long pants, fingered gloves or mittens, a DOT approved helmet strapped on, eye protection
to be shatterproof riding goggles/glasses or a visor/shield on your helmet, and over ankle boots.

Military Police WILL enforce these requirements, as well as speed limits and other rules of the road.

When registering online at the BMWNEF website be sure the name you register under matches
the name on the Gov't issued ID you'll be using to enter the base at the gate.

Well, the new bike is fully outfitted, now for this boy's body. Second cataract removed today. Recovery fully expected by first of year. Then, on to training wheels with the new bike because it's been SOOO LOOONG since my last ride!  May have to re-up the Beginner's riding class....

Awesome. New glasses, too?

The better to see you with, my dear.

Actually, I'm cleared by the doctor to drive now without glasses.  As a transportation planner, I wonder just how low is the threshold for sight in a driving permit????

If the drivers I often see are any indication, If you don't use a seeing-eye dog or a white cane you're good to go.

Vision Exam
Your eyes will be tested by means of a mechanical device. The minimum acceptable vision is 20/60 in one eye, with or without corrective lenses, and a field of vision of, at least, 140 degrees. Upon failure of the field vision exam the applicant will be required to have a DS-274 completed by a licensed practitioner.

As I've always heard: "Blind in one eye, can barely see out of the other..." You'll be g

Yep, we're good to go! Farkles seem to appear when called upon, and leave when the engine quits. BTW, I'm loving the heated grips  :)

I may, or may not, have prescription lenses when this event rolls around...

10-4. Prescription ordered today. I'll hopefully be spectacularly bespectacled by the Rally. (say THAT three times straight!!)

As of today, on base housing is sold out, and yes you have to wear the safety vests...its on the website posted at the beginning

Should have a quality brew ready for 'attitude adjustment' Tom.

I'm going to try to get there by 9:00 am on Friday.  Depending on Orthopedist's
opinion on my quirky ankle, I may be riding a Ford.  :(

If you can text and snap chat on your mobile device, you'll be fine...  It's the new standard...

I'm really looking forward the this weekend's attitude adjustment  :beerchug:
Roman are you there yet!  :rotflmao:

Deeper rooted issues will require a team of specialists...  :sign0151:

I'm considering bringing my lifted jeep. I got a snorkel and tow points.

Who here is going offroad at this event?

Not me.... not intentionally anyway.  BTDT.

Wiped the cobwebs off poor Connie today, and took her for a spin.  Filled her up with the good stuff (89).
Last time out out was a check ride after the "WTF happened in GA Overhaul".  So with new plugs, adjusted valves,
new CCT (threw it in there) and a carb sync, she's right as rrr.....  I ain't sayin' it.  :-X

Am checking the weather (egads, why, oh why...) and it looks to be a wet, chilly ride down on Saturday followed by a wet, chillier ride back on Sunday. Alternative is a brew date over warm propane heat drinking homebrews.  Hmmmmmmmmm. Ya'll may be doing without me this time. Oh well, I've supported the cause. Have a good one, whilst I down more than one of the same!

Saturday should be nice with the cold rainy front moving through overnight into Sunday morning.

Considering my wife's aversion to camping in less than ideal conditions, we may end up being day riders in.

We're not going to be there this year.  You all have fun.  You're all going to be in our own backyard.  Have fun and Doug, be good.  lol

Wow Irene!  Tanks in your backyard?!  Awesome!

Heheh...  Doug be good...  :D  :rotflmao:

On a more somber note, I'm cagin' it this year.  :(
Doc says, "it's a better option".  The best option was stay home..... Bah!!!  :D
Having said that, I'll have an EZ-UP in the trunk, and a bigger cooler!

Pancakes for breakfast Roman?

Wife and I will cage down tonight.  Considering that the weather tonight should be good and Saturday night, not so good, I'm going to try to get her to camp tonight.

Tomorrow we'll come back down on bikes.

Riding out the storm has an element of coolness. We r hunkering down  :-\

Hunkerin' down in a Prius is ONE thing, a tent is a whole 'nother thing.... :rotflmao:

The BMW Coldest Rally was a blast...even without my bike! I need hlep compressing pics to upload here. Please pm me if you can advise.

Marty brought his canopy, which at low position allowed us to huddle by the fire while others ran from the brief rainstorm :great: From now on I'm bringing canopies. Good job Marty on saving the day!

Glad ya'll had a good event!
Would really have liked to spend the weekend with you good folks, but seeing as how the outdoor temp in northwest Georgia is 37 with a windchill making it feel like 29 just standing outside, I woulda froze something important if I were just now getting home on my bike. Current temperature gradient shown.

The great folks at the Northeast Florida BMW Owners Club never disappoint.
The rally itself was great, with seminars, tech sessions, demonstrations, and
tasty dinners both Friday and Saturday night.  My 5th year attending, and I'll
be signing up for my 6th.  Thank You BMWNEF and all the volunteers!

The weather was EXTREME.  Mixed sun and clouds with high temps in the mid 70's,
and lows in the 50's at night.  Very unusual... but welcomed by all.

This year, they dropped off a huge pile of firewood right next to our fire ring, which
was another treat... No firewood caravans to the Airhead section for re-fills.

Though our group was small (10-12) the BMW crew were fantastic company, as
usual, and in the evening everyone was hopping from fire to fire to talk and have a good time.

Saturday night, we were met by a lenghty rain shower from 8-10:30p after the banquet.  We faired well
with an E-Z-UP and a closer than usual seating set up, but still kept a roaring fire and the good time
rolling along.  Rain, thunder and lightning came back about 1am... but we were about done.

Great time!  Great friends!  Great Rally!
