Connie pull a trailer?

Has anyone pulled a trailer behind their connie ? If so had does it do , {pull and handle} . Also how did you mount trailer hitch to Connie ?
 
I tow a Cycle-mate 2000 LTD cargo trailer using a hitchdoc vertical receiver style hitch. www.cycle-mate.com www.hitchdoc.com Towing a trailer is certainly different than not. Considerations are braking, speed, manuverability, , handling, parking and being dorky. You have to adapt to the differences in handling towing a trailer. Using the "middle" of the road more so than the "edges". Anticipating issues before they occur and understanding the need to brake early and often. Loading and wieght distribution of the trailer can make it enjoyable or a nightmare so learn to pack with care. Reduce tongue weight to 10% of the overall load and you'll be happy. As with most vehicles the problem is not pulling the trailer but stopping it. I've been kicking around the idea of getting a unigo myself one day. Thou not very big and kind of pricey, they just seem like they would work very well. But as mentioned before you simply have to allow more stopping distance and keep in mind that you've got the extra weight..
 
The key item is the weight of the trailer. I tried to pull an Aspen Classic Camper trailer with my connie. It pulled easily when going straight, but if you were taking off and in a curve, you could feel the mass of the trailer pulling against your balance. It feels like it is trying to pull you over, a very weird feeling, but physics prevail and you stay upright. Also as mentioned, braking is the item you most have to worry with. I'd guess that anything over 150 lbs you might want brakes on the trailer. As for the camper, I now pull it with a K1200LT and I don't get that feeling of it trying to pull me over in a curve. Also, it does have electric brakes and there is an electronic brake controller on the bike, makes a world of difference. The best advice I can give you, is to go for the lightest and smallest trailer you can possible get by with. As for the trailer hitch, Hitch Doc makes one that goes on fairly easily. There are also other brands, but most are basically the same design. The item I would be most concerned with is the height of the hitch from the ground. Pulling trailers with other bikes (water cooled bikes) I've experienced engine temps that ran a bit higher than I liked. Any problems in that area with the Connie?' Sahagan
 
I HAVE PULLED A 1980'S TRAILER WITH MY 2000 CONNIE FOR SEVERIAL TRIPS. I AGREE ABOUT BEING CAREFUL ABOUT BRAKING. I HAVE A VERY HEAVY TRAILER AND HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE RADIAL TIRES COMING APART FROM THE ADDED STRESS ON THE TIRES. I AM USING BIAS TIRES AT THE ADVICE OF A FRIEND. I ALSO RECOMEND THE OVER SIZE FRONT BRAKE ROTOR KIT FROM MURPH'S BECAUSE MY ROTORS WARPED FROM HEAT OF BRAKING WITH TRAILER. I HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH THE ROTORS SINCE CHANGING ROTORS.
 
I pull a Bushtec Turbo+2 trailer and have a Hitchdoc hitch installed. I also agree with what everyone else who is pulling a trailer has said. I've pulled other trailers before the Bushtec and I must say that this is the easiest pulling trailer in my experiences. But you still have to remember it's there when it comes to stopping, allow extra distance! Keeping it loaded properly with the proper weight balance also makes a big difference.
