Driftless Area of Southwestern Wisconsin Routes and Information

Some of you may remember the Driftless area from when you attended the 2010 COG National Rally in Tomah and others are asking what is the Driftless area.

The Driftless Area is located in the American Midwest including southwestern Wisconsin, southeastern Minnesota, northeastern Iowa, and northwestern Illinois. This area’s name is derived from the fact that it was surrounded by glaciers during the last glacial period, yet remained untouched by passing glaciers. The area is noted by the deeply carved river valleys after having escaped glaciation in the last glacial period.

COG visits the area during the Gathering on the Green and the Hunt for Red October and on many of our day rides.

Below are a couple of websites dedicated to the area.

https://driftlessroadadventures.com is a free website created by a fellow rider designed to share pre-planned motorcycle routes in the Driftless Area of the upper Midwest. The website contains free GPS routes for 33 unique single-day trips covering the entire Driftless areas of Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, and Illinois. It also includes historic and scenic points of interest on every route to help you plan your ride.

http://driftlessdestinations.com/ is a commercial website also providing points of interests, restaurants and a limited number of routes.

Brian,
What a fantastic site, thanks for posting. I've been on a lot of those roads but was unaware of some of the sites I should have taken in.

Once again, thanks for the post.

Brian, thanks for posting this.

I'm Dale from DriftlessRoadAdventures.com and I'm happy to answer any questions either here or through our website.

I just joined the forum.  I don't ride a Concourse (please don't hold it against me), but i did grow up on Kawasakis.

Anyway, I'm happy to be here and I look forward to getting to know a new group of riders.

Dale

I just spend this past Saturday riding the Wisconsin Triangle route with my dad and 2 friends. It started out a little chilly, but we pushed through and had a great time. Lot's of great curves and hills. On Sunday we met up with a bunch of guys that rode the Land of Lincoln route and they said that they had a great ride as well.

We are probably going to try another route this coming weekend, but we have not decided which one yet.

Hello Everyone.

We have not posted for quite a while and we wanted to bring you up to speed on this past year and our plans for the future.

For those of you who don't know us, or don't remember us, we are Dale and Renee and we have created DriftlessRoadAdventures.com.  This is a website that offers free self-guided tour routes in the Driftless Areas of Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Minnesota.

We launched the website in April of 2018, and since the launch we have been very busy.  We created 33 individual, single day routes covering over 8,500 miles of awesome roads.  We attended several events including the Rev It Up for Awareness Ride, the Triumph ATLAK event, and the BMWMOA Rally in Des Moines.  We also met with and shared our website with several motorcycle dealers throughout the Driftless Area.

Although we have not had a very big presence on individual motorcycle forums, we have spent a lot of time on other social media platforms by blogging regularly and sharing our blog posts on Facebook/Twitter/Instagram.  We also opened a store and began to sell Driftless Road Adventure branded merchandise.

In addition to all of these activities, we still managed to ride 5 of our new routes and take a trip on the northern portion of the T.W.A.T and the Lake Superior north shore.

We had a lot of fun in 2018 and 2019 is shaping up to be just as busy and just as much fun.  Some of the things we are working on include:

Website Updates, including a calendar of area events and rides.
New challenges and contests.
Driftless area group rides.
Dual Sport recommendations.
Paper maps for those that like to go old school.

The new events calendar is already available on the website, and we are continuously adding events as details firm up.  if you know of an event, please let us know.  I'll also check the COG forum calendar to see if there are any rides/events in the Driftless Area.

Thanks for all of your support in 2018.  We hope you have a safe and fun 2019.

Dale and Renee

Cool area. I usta spend two or three longish weekends a year in that area when I lived up near Red Wing.
