F1 at Silverstone

Just finished watching todays Formula 1 race at Silverstone (that's England for you NASCAR fans). A pretty good race. It's a shame Nico Rosberg had trans problems, it would have been great to see him and Louis Hamilton fight it out at the end as Louis was reeling him in.

But the real fight of the race was between Alonso and Vettel, and it reminded me of just how much a punk Vettel really is. When he first came into F1 he would routinely shove people out of his way with his better Red Bull car. Now that the shoe is on the other foot all he does is whine. 27 years old, four world championships in a row and all he does is cry to his pit when people don't get out of his way. It's called racing for a reason. He was a punk four years ago, and he's still a whiny little punk. Even more so now that the Red Bull car isn't the best on the circuit. He probably thought of himself as the next Michael Schumacher, but that dream is fading quick.

The points race is even between Hamilton and Rosberg. Could be an interesting second half to the season.

Yeah, just goes to show how even the "drivers" are and how much of a difference a "good" car makes. Button was a middle of the pack driver until Braun found a loophole in the then current rules..... and bam, he's a world champion. Nicco hasn't really done much until this year, Alonso, although putting in some spirited drives in the handcuffed Ferrari has faded from his Renault days of glory. And Vettle..... good but definitely not Shumie great. The layout of the Mercedes power plant is so brilliant its stupid. Separating the turbo housings and putting the motor/generator between them has been the key to their more than 70 hp (rumored) advantage. The set-up allows the generator to produce electricity from the turbine for the kers battery and the electric motor to assist in spooling up the compressor side of the turbo AT THE SAME TIME. All the other team's turbo designs can only do one or the other at any given time. You can bet though, next year EVERYONE will have a similar design.
