front fork

for stock springs, 170mm measured from the top of a fully compressed fork with NO spring. If you have aftermarket springs, follow the recomended level by the spring MFG. Generally 150mm. measured from the top of a fully compressed fork w/o spring. 2003 Concours, 52K COG #6953 IBA 28004 http://mysite.verizon.net/slybones/Concours/connieMain.htm

thanks for information, I'am been working on a friends 2001 and the service manual is pretty unclear about the amount of oil, Butch

just fyi for any one who doesnt know. Measure from the top on a fully compressed fork, with no spring means.... You remove the spring, compress the fork all the way down. Partially fill the fork. Work the fork up and down some fill the passage ways at the bottom. compress fork all the way down, fill to 4 inches or so from the top of the tube. Then remove oil so that you have "170mm" of air at the top of the fork. This is not the amount of oil you add. Its the amount of space you leave at the top of the fork. -- When the fork is fully compressed and has no spring in it. then you lift the front end up so the forks are fully extended. now there is a lot of space in there. Add the springs, reassemble, etc. Make sure to set the preload, by measureing the 'sag'. http://www.sonicsprings.com/catalog/setting_sag_street_tech_article.php Anyting else from the group? 2003 Concours, 52K COG #6953 IBA 28004 http://mysite.verizon.net/slybones/Concours/connieMain.htm

Slybones asked "Anyting else from the group? " Now that I have drain screws on my fork legs, I have every intention of writing down how much oil each fork gets the next time I change it. I think it will be much easier for me once I know how much to measure and pour in, as opposed to setting up an oil sucker.

I added 12oz. I figger that's ~140mm, usin Sonic 1.1s FWIW. 01 Conc, Mijami Floriduh OTP 06: http://tinyurl.com/2vk9o2 route map: http://tinyurl.com/4p7pmd
