Gone german

After rwo C14s and a Harley, I’ve gone German. I miss the C14 but after my crash in Lake George a few years back, I rode my old Electra Glide until it became too heavy fir me - ah yes, age creeps on.

So when an acquaintance stopped riding, I picked up his low milleage BMW F800gt for a really fair price. It’s a different ride, much lighter and I am getting used to having to shift often.

I recently had an incident at home and got a light sprain on my left knee (the shifter leg, bummer) but it should heal in a couple of weeks and I am looking forward to a great 2026 season - if the weather stops being so weird.

Ride on!

Congratulations on the GT! Contact me if you have questions. I had a 2014 for 107,000+ miles.

You'll find some great info and some others who know the bike well over at https://f800riders.org. Technically, I'm still an admin over there.

The F800GT is one of those unknown gems of the motorcycling world. I had always planned to get a Connie or FJR, but I stumbled on the F800GT by accident. After buying one, I never looked to the bigger sport touring bikes. It did everything.

You will find it deceptively fast. I took mine up to Hurricane Ridge for its first long day trip. I was just riding very relaxed when I approached the outskirts of Sequim, a town known for its speed traps. I saw two LEOs off to the side, and looked down to see what I was doing, expecting that I was probably doing about 62 in a 55. Gulp! Shock! Oh my gosh! I was doing over 90 and had no idea!

The bike has a split personality that really exhibits itself at about 5000 rpms. Below that, the bike seems just a well mannered bike. Above that, and it seems to take on a racer mentality. Maybe a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde attitude. You will be able to keep up with anybody on a two lane road...and at the end of the day you'll be relaxed and ready to go for more.

Lastly, bookmark this link.
This was made by the original owner of the forum. He goes through virtually all the procedures you'll want to know. Very professionally made. He includes all the torque vales to that you'll need. It's invaluable.

So, did you get a ticket?

No. I think they were too busy talking to each other. I was lucky.

@chrisd61 has a great bike. We need pictures though. :D Is it white? Black? Orange? Blue? How many miles? And smiles?

Chris

Beautiful bike! Congratulations on a good find.
Looked up specs...89 HP snd under 500 lbs; no slouch. Belt drive is also nice, probably more rear wheel HP than a C10, coupled with almost 200 lbs less.

We can compare at Spring Fling, I also have a 2016 F800GT.
Rode it to last year National in New Mexico from Boston area.
Love the lighter weight but previous was an R1200RT. Had a 94 Connie until 2010
