How many miles with bent rod?

Hi, from a new owner of a 17k '06. It hydrolocked on me right away. Learned about cog and Steve later. I was extremely lucky. Inline shut off valve and 1500 miles later, it runs well minus some issues associated obviously with carbs and also broken airbox and some other holes here and there. All of this can be fixed and I saw the respective videos. But then I checked the pistons for hydrolock damage and #3 is about 1milimeter or maybe 3/64" lower than the second. I learned that this is not much and that many ride around with a bent rod. Is there anyone who actually knows that he has a bent rod and rides anyway? How big is the damage and how many miles have been done on a bent rod? In other words, how many miles can I expect out of this machine? Thank you!

You may have a ticking time bomb on your hands. Ask Scott So - - - -, old time COG member.

This is from a number of years ago. His ’86 hydro’d and he never did any of the measurements that really need to be done. Several months later they were tooling along fat, dumb, and happy out somewhere – bike running well – until the bottom end grenaded, blowing out a good portion of the lower engine case. No hint or warning that poo was about to hit the fan.

Good luck with it.
