Immobilizer Error-Cause?

Hi All,

I went to start my 2014 C14 Friday morning, everything looked normal at first. Then as I hit the Stove top button (key) and press down to start the bike, everything just died. I rode the bike the night before without any issues at all.

The display just went blank, I couldn't move the key to the "on" position. Everything went dead. 🤬

As I was going to work, i just left it and took the car to work. After work, I started diagnosing the issue. Checked the battery, read almost 13V and cleaned all connections. Reconnected the battery, still the same problem but now the display showed "Immobolizer error" with a key symbol for a few seconds then went dead.

Checked all the fuses I could get my hands on, no burnt fuses. Checked my "fuzz Block" that I added this spring, no loose wires or burnt fuses.

Now i'm getting frustrated and I'm convinced that it's the ignition/Kipass system giving me the problem. At this point it's getting late, so I leave it for the morning.

Following morning, my buddy calls me to go for a ride. I explain my problem, and he suggest we try his battery before I go any further. So he rides over, we install his battery in my C14 and the bike starts right up. 👏 😁.

Turns out my battery had a dead cell and would fail when a load was put to it. I've never had a battery do this. Now my battery did give little indicators over the last few months. On cold mornings (3C -37F range), my bike would say "low battery" but the bike still started without any issues.

So bought a new battery and my bike starts and runs awesome just like it always has.

Lesson learned: Always try the easy fixes first 😁

Yea just had mine die at work today with the same symptoms, tried the charger and nothing, got a new battery and started right up, my battery was 4 years old so I should have known it was coming.

Its always the simple things that get you at first as you mind always races to complex solutions, not sure way. Example. Yesterday wanted to go for short ride around the hood to get fresh gas and stabil run through the fuel system. Only had a few mins to get it done. Last weekend added grip puppies and some aux. led front lights. The bike won't turn over. Thought that's strange, I didn't think a had tested the led lights enough to run the battery down. The gauge showed 12.8 or something like that. I quick hooked the charger and let it set for 10 mins. No difference. Couldn't figure it out. thought maybe the tip over switch, kick stand switch, who knows. Flipped all the switches on and off. Nothing!! Finally calmed down and double checked the kill switch. DOH, it was switched the wrong way, so my running it up and down did nothing but leave it in the wrong position, OFF. I guess i bumped it when i put the gripp puppies on or the lights. Stupid mistake. Always remain CALM!
