Legends indeed. but there are more... one of my dirt favs was John Desoto.  I went to his MX school in 1971. I was a kid... jeez he was fast too.  Maybe a bit crazier than these though. Certainly not as long enduring.

Hi,
Eddie Lawson, rings a bell! ;D

I was a Kenny Roberts fan myself.  I was 18 yrs old and had just started riding my dad's bikes in 1978 when he won his GP world champ..
At the time, I thought he was the coolest dude on the planet!

The one thing that stands out to me in the Rainey/Lawson pic is the riding gear.  The leathers are one thing, but the boots....they look like french paratrooper boots.  It never ceases to amaze me regarding the advances in everything in the last 30 or so years.

I watched the Rainey career-ending crash on youtube, which I hadn't seen in a while, and it looked like a fairly benign corner he was taking, but its hard to tell from the video whether he went down at the apex with too much speed, or whether there was something on the track as he just passes the apex.  Anybody know the story?  Thanks!
