Looking for a route from Boston area to Mt. Airy MD

Hi,
Meeting friends in Mt Airy MD in June for some riding in the MD and VA area. Looking for a good route to get there from the Boston area (Millis). Have a day and half to get there and expect to split the ride into 2 parts and spend an overnight half way. Not looking to do this in one day and will definitely avoid 95.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Avoid highways, large cities, and the shoreline. Plan a route on back roads. Head west through MA, CT, NY, and south through PA to MD. Try using Google maps (of Garmin Basecamp) to get some ideas. Enter Mt Airy as the destination and set options to avoid highways and tolls (select curvy roads in Basecamp). Google maps will usually provide 2-3 options as a start, and then you can tweak it manually if needed. This sample map might work well as a starting point:
