After a dozen year I have another red 1997 Connie! Different fin but hey close enough.
The COG website has changed a bit in the years I have been gone...
There has to be complete list of common upgrades to the C10 on this site...
Winter is here in Cheyenne and a good time to breath new life into 73,000 miles chassis
Need to come up with a good to do project list so that by spring she will be the best road going Connie she can be
Thank!

another red 97?, the stock 97 is Windsor Green, AMHIK.
I don't remember a listing of upgrades, but from memory;

ZZR1200 or ZG1400 rear shock upgrade
ZRX fork/rim/brake caliper swap
17" rim (Front and rear)
Cutting of Stock fork Springs
Carb rebuild including overflow tubes
Headlight wiring and plug upgrade for higher wattage
Get rid of stock windscreen for anything else, Cee Bailey, Rifle etc

Ha Ha how about a vibrating seat ?
Good idea. At the 2013 Nationals I saw a female go straight up in the air wen told to turn on a turn signal on a C10. ⚡The vibrating seat was to remind the rider the turn signal was on. I should figure out how to do that. I forget the turn signal all the time.

The C-10 has so many mods/farkles done to it that a list would be endless...
But, being a 97 with 73K miles, I'd start with the basics;
Hoses/fluids/brakes/tires/valve adjust/Hydrolock check/plugs and wires.
After that, ya can start on farkles.
For farkles; we can give you info on basically anything you want to do.
Just ask and we'll do the best we can..

Ride safe, Ted

+1. Get it up to mechanical snuff, then ride it.

The bike and your body will soon tell you what needs to be done to make the bike fit you and your riding style.

Get the checkbook out and farkle as needed.

Below is the list of what has been added to my 2003, but a few things were on it when I bought it used. The spendy-est and best I installed is the "7th gear mod", but I don't think Steve is building those anymore. There are some others that I think are no longer available. Other than that, I would say the carb bowl drains, Steve's "2-minute" mod for the cabs, and the Rifle windshield are towards the top of the list.

The drag link is the link on the rear brake that is attached between the swing arm and the rear Caliper.
(Keeps the caliper from rotating when you apply the brake)
I replaced the steel OEM Link with an aluminum aftermarket Link for a ZX-1000.
It reduces un-sprung weight on the rear suspension.
(It doesn't really accomplish much, but I though it looked cool) :sneaky:

Ride safe, Ted {Yes, I know I'm out of my mind...}

PS: Guess I should add that I built aluminum Caliper brackets when I installed the 4 pot calipers on the front.
As a result; my 4 pot system weighs less then the OEM 2 pot system.

Nosmo, what is Steve Sefsick's intake cam retiming mod?
I knew he made Power Cams, Torque cams, and an Exhaust Cam sprocket.

I hate to say it, but I can't recall the exact specs on it. Can't remember if it gets advanced or retarded. It goes along with the retimed exhaust cam, but keeps the OEM sprocket. I'm hanging out at my vacation cabin right now, and I'll have to see if I can find my old paperwork when I get home. Or you can contact Steve at Shoodaben Engineering. All I can say is it made a great difference in the low-end torque, this was before Steve started offering the new camshafts, which I understand are even better. I wish I had bought a set of his torque cams when they were still available.

I have Steve's Power Cams in my C-10.
The Power cams are different from the Torque cams, and (because of the base cam that was used to do the grind) they require use of the special Exhaust Cam Sprocket.
His Torque cams were ground from another base cam, and you do not have to add that special sprocket.

If you bought only the Exhaust cam Sprocket, my understanding is;
it was installed on the OEM Exhaust Cam {in the new holes that alter the exhaust timing}, and the OEM intake Cam Sprocket is used in it's stock position.
ie; The exhaust timing was changed, but the intake was not.

Sure. I know exactly where I got it.
I got it from Jim Snyder, after he retired his C-10. <grin>

I'll ask him where he got it, but I think it was a long time ago.
NOTE: (unlike us) He's getting old and won't remember where he got it. (as he has CRS)

Ride safe, Ted

PS: The piece is a machined from a piece of aluminum square stock.
It's milled to look like an I beam with lightening holes along it's length.
Pretty snazzy......... 🤪

Ted, would you remember where you got the ZX1100 aftermarket link?
Sound like quite the farkle 😝😎😎
I had one on my 99 C10 for a little while before I sold it. I took it off my 86 ZX1000R. It was a direct bolt on and I believe a 86 and 87 are the same.

Yupp; I think it's from a 86 OR 87 ZX-900/1000.
I have the Link off the bike right now. {I need to shorten it}
ie; I installed a 2 pot caliper on the rear, and the ZX Link makes that caliper hit the right bag as the suspension moves.

Regarding the above mention of retiming the INTAKE cam: Yes, there is an instruction for that in the documentation SISF provided with the exhaust cam mod/reset.

Now, you can call me a jerk if you want, but I am not going to type out those instructions here.

PLEASE DON'T ATTEMPT THIS MOD WITHOUT TALKING TO STEVE OR GETTING INSTRUCTIONS FROM HIM IN WRITING.

1) The instructions are a bit complex, and if you screw it up, you can really hurt your mill, and I don't want to be responsible for that.

2) I consider that info to be SISF's intellectual property, and I respect his rights to that. If you bought the modified exhaust cam from him, look for your old instructions, it should be there at the bottom of the page........HOWEVER........READ MY POINT 3 BELOW:

3) I also have some pages of text with entries from SISF and Connie Rider and and a guy known as "Supersteve", and some others, indicating that the original instructions contained a small error and that was later corrected/clarified. That stuff is text that I copied and pasted from what I think was the "old" forum, I printed out the text and those old pages are in my Connie files. Truthfully, I'm not sure I would attempt it today even with the notes I have, it is a little confusing.

So...the intake retiming was supposed to get a little more in the mid-range and top-end (per the instructions), which lost a little due to the exhaust retiming bringing the torque curve down into the lower, more usable range (I hope I said that right). I did it when also doing the exhaust retiming, so I don't know how things are different if only doing one at a time. I don't recall for sure, but I think I did this at the same time as the "7th gear mod", I can't find my old logbooks and calender entries of when I did mods and maintenance. (Between moving into my fiance's house, moving all my tools and parts and bikes into and out of storage, some things back to my old house, some things back to the new house, some things have just disappeared. My sanity being one of them.) But, as I said above, this really helps take advantage of the gear ratio changes, and really, really makes the bike what it "Shoodabeen" as Steve would say.

Thanks Nosmo. I wasn't aware of the intake cam timing mod in conjunction with the special exhaust cam sprocket.
As I sed, I have his Power Cams in mine. They come as a set and were reground on a specific ZX-1000 cam.
So, on the Power Cams, the special exhaust cam sprocket has to be used as well.
NOTE: If someone is lucky enough to have his torque cams, the special ex sprocket is not required.

I have a spare head with the 4 degree exhaust sprocket. Came with the instructions as well. How would one know if it were attached to Power cams? Any identifying marks? What was wrong with original instructions again? Could anyone elaborate in more detail?
Thanks anyone.

The Power cams are pretty rare. {I doubt that 15-20 sets were ever produced}
If you have a set, they might be hand stamped on the sprocket end.
The only person that would recognize the Power cam Profile would be Steve..

But, there may be a way to get an indication;
Measuring from the opposite side of Cam to peak of cam lobe;
A ZG cam measures approx. 1.385".
A Power Cam has a special profile that is ground onto a certain ZX Cam.
The reground Power Cam measures approx. 1.405".
A ZX Cam measures approx. 1.410".

NOTE: People have done a "lot" of experimenting over the years, so,,,
It's also possible that you have a set of ZX-900 or ZX-1000 cams.
Or, you could have a ZX intake and a ZG exhaust..
And/or; Differing hole combinations could have been used.

NOTE: Stock ZX-1000 or ZG Cam sprockets have 2 sets of holes.
(ZX-900 Cams had only 1 set of holes)
ZX-1000 Cams were installed in the engine using the opposite holes than those used by a ZG.
ie; I "think" the ZG used the Square bossed holes for the Intake, and the Round Bossed holes for the exhaust.
and the ZX "may" have used the Round bossed holes for both.

{Confusing, isn't it?} 😵

Yes it is confusing just in the combination possibilities!
Ha.
But as always Ted you have given me something to work with.
Stay warm and Merry Christmas/NY
