Opitnions on saving installed radio

Going thru my new '94 and debating what to do with disconnected AM/FM radio - ie, try to resurrect it or pitch it. Touch pad (box) is installed (term used loosely) in left glove box, with amp under the seat. PO disconnected it after he ran the battery down and then a passenger tore the antennae off with an ungraceful dismount. I'm wondering what the opinions are on radios and installations. I'm thinking about pulling the old unit and seeing if I can find a small amp to hook to my Ipod and power the two small speakers installed above the glove boxes. Has anyone tried that and have a recommendation on an amp? I'm also wondering if there's value in the radio for traffic reports, etc... (I'm commuting on the bike). Thanks for any suggestions, Dan

The Starcom1/Autocomm are intercom platforms. They allow normal speech between you and your pillion plus they accept inputs from other devices like radio/mp3, GPS, Radar Detector, Cell phone, Bike to Bike radio, etc.
 
I would ride a while if your new to the bike and find out what you want. You may only want a mp3 clip in the jacket and some ear buds all the way to a full music, cell, com, bike to bike unit. I would start by figuring out what you want and then if the current pos works for you then fire it up. The amp might be worth something but I would never listen to speakers mounted on a bike. I tried it and didn't like it. ---------------------------------- I will answer any question. It is up to you to figure out if I should have.

Good advice all the way around. The bike ended up answering half the question for me (whether to keep the old system. I pulled the leads away from the bike and hooked them to a separate battery to see if the radio would even light up (and to avoid possible damage to any bike circuits). The amp let out a gentle sigh and shot out a puff of smoke -- saving me possibly endless hours of messing with it. I'll keep the speakers where they are for now, but I'm pitching the rest.
