Speakers for zg1000

Training Wheels
Has anyone installed speakers on their concours? I've seen a couple pics of concours with speakers but I have no first hand experience. I normally listen to my headphones but - 1) I have a large whole in the dash from the PO (it has a cover but none the less), and 2) It'd be nice not to have fight with the ear plugs. Is the sound half decent at speed? I travel about a 100km a day at highway speeds. Looking forward to your response. Colin

IMHO if you have your sound system turned up to where you can hear it through your helmet and over road noise, your sharing it with everyone around whether they like it or not. good ear buds will stay put unless you jerk on the cord. Or helmet speakers? 1990 Aint she a pretty Tomato (the bike ofcourse) wedshots albums http://community.webshots.com/user/sawfiler64/albums/most-recent

I have a speaker kit I was thinking about parting with, but it was specific to the pre-94. Mark

sawfiler is correct. If you care about music then go with correctly mounted helmet speakers or good ear buds. If you just want a lot of noise with music mixed in then go for the bike mount. ---------------------------------- South Central Area Director Email scad@cog-online.org

To each their own.. I have 4" x 6" spkrs. mounted on storage compartment lids...I like it that way...not inside my helmet-too distracting...I also have a Rifle base with 18" shield...it helps cut down on wind noise at speed. Not Carnegie Hall quality but I don't expect that anyway on my bike....just something to occupy my brain when "out on the slab" droning along ;)

Colin, you might try to contact Brock Delp for some his experience with external speakers. His website is http://delp.net/Concours/, and click on "Radio Install" to read more. Mike B / Gig Harbor, WA

The problem with helmet speakers is you need to wear the helmet to hear them. I have 4" stereo speakers installed in the dash of my Connie. I installed them 9 years ago and they still sound great. I'd install them again in a heartbeat. YMMV Brock T. Delp http://www.delp.net/Concours '99 Concours "Gypsy" COG #3903/A : IBA #15224
