Tim doing ok?

How are you doing after the procedure? Feeling better, strength returning?
ie; Give us a progress report..

Ride safe, Ted
Still pretty sore and don't feel like doing a heck of a lot. For instance, plugging the tickle charger in on the C14 really hurt.

Ok, keep us updated.
Right now, I know that we really don't want to make you laugh..
But, We need to know when it's time to start picking on you again. <evil grin>

Ride safe, Ted

Saw the Heart surgeon today. He said there was no reason for another visit with him. I was highly disappointed. NOT! This DR. got the ball rolling to have the ostomy reversed. I think I fell through some cracks with the covid thing. It probably should have been reversed some time ago.

Next is a echo scan to make sure my heart is ready for the ostomy reversal March 5th. This is a precaution only. Will see if that surgeon can also remove the port at that time.

You have been through quite the ordeal and I imagine you are counting the days to swing a leg over your Connie!

Congrats on the continued positive prognosis đź‘Ź.

Sounds like great news on the thumpin' gizzard.
I know that the reversal will be a relief! Must be a PITA..

I should say the Heart Surgeon said it won't be long before I'll start feeling like a 20 year old. Not so sure about that. Maybe if I could go #1 a little faster I might feel a lot younger for sure. ;)

And Ted you are right. The thumping gizzard is a pita. I will be glad when it's gone and so will the wife.

I'll be ready to ride in a couple more weeks. It might be a good thing it's cold outside for now.

my prayers continue for your speedy recovery Tim!!
let us know when the reversal is a go for sure, we'll be praying.

Thanks buddy. Saw the Surgeon today who is going to remove the bag and port. Everything is till on schedule for March 5th for the bag and port removal. As always when going under the knife there is potential for unforeseen problems. But this is pretty much straight forward.

An another unforeseen issue:

When we decided to do the second round of Chemo to make sure ALL the cancer was gone, it about killed me. I spent a week in the hospital with Heart, kidney, liver and pancreas being affected negatively. I'm a type 2 diabetic. Sugars went through the roof. I was controlling sugar with diet and medications. Suddenly I was on insulin. Then after the heart surgery it seemed like all I got was insulin every time thy checked me and still on the medication. I was getting more insulin than I had ever given myself.

I saw my GP and we agreed to try a longer lasting version of the insulin to cut down the number of shots I was giving myself. I hate doing that BTW. But here lately it seems blood sugar has improved to the point I have had little insulin. This last week I have given myself 3 units which is the smallest dose once. Sugars have been pretty darn good.

My theory is with increased blood flow now after the by pass surgery, the pancreas appears to be putting out more insulin for me. Of course I have lost a ton of weight and will have to be careful after the bag is gone. If I eat like I do now with the bag, I will gain the weight back post haste. I am only 15 pounds away from my high school weight now and still losing. I started at around 235lbs and am down to around 170 lbs.

I am ready for a good ride. Might have to sneak out before March 5th. See you at the BC

Thanks. We have a 9am show up time at Wenatchee in the morning. I expect to get out of jail on Monday. That is if I do what they want.

Jehovah Rapha give you healing by His Stripes....Craig

Everyone else has the prayers covered, so, I'll be Cheering for ya Tim..
We'll be waiting for your ride err post surgery report...

Ride safe, Ted

OK this saga can be closed. I'm home from the hospital now in fact just a few hours ago. The Bag is GONE, just a stapled wound. Which is healing well. The port is gone too. While handy at times, it was a cause of some irritation.

So now I am on the mind eating my favorite foods. This does not include any fiber. which means Protein. The lower intestine is still learning it job. This means I glad we bought plenty of TP.

wonderful that you're on the mend Tim and the surgery was successful!! It will be great as your life gets back to normal. Looking forward to hearing about the first ride after the difficult year.

Thanks everyone for all the thoughts and prayers. I'm going to get some me some quality time with a certain Kawasaki. Maybe a couple of them.

BOWEL NOISE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Start ripping some good ones!

Glad everything went well Tim! We all look forward to hearing about your riding adventures in the near future!

Good thing you didn't have this done last March, or you might have been SOL.

I'm still accepting TP roll donations. Getting better but still can't trust anything. Starting to get a little old but still better than emptying a bag.

A couple of days ago I got covid test #18 to have a procedure done today. I have not heard the results yet, checking to see if the cancer was still gone. But the Doc wasn't jumping up and down so I guess at this point things went as planned. Now back home and still a bit wobbly on the feet but not bad. Best thing was I got to eat lunch once home.

Ref Covid test. This was the first time in about 2 years they trued to take a sample from the brain and it hurt. Our hospital must have old equipment because the drive through at the clinic in Omak just swabs the nose. Quick and simple. I'm sure #19 is coming up in a few weeks for a CT scan.

What a journey. if you weren't tough before, you are now! Curious about the covid tests... were you vacinnated at some point, or did they put that off because of the other issues? getting covid during all of this would not have been good at all.

How's the recovery going now Tim? Hope your strength is returning quickly. looking forward to seeing you at a rally again.

Strength with the exception of my right elbow is going slow. Still some things just not worth attempting. As you know putting a C10 on the center stand can be a bit of a challenge. So is the 900. I put the rear tire on two inch boards and it becomes a breeze. Even a bit easier than putting a C14 on the center stand which is not difficult at all.

I'm sure You will se me at a rally at some point. Trying to decide if Ride the Ribbon or the Volcano ride would be doable. Along with some other things being thrown around.

An but of an update on me. No balance, trouble walking, no strength, no endurance. Currently doing PT with exercises.

Personally, I think it is medication related. After doing a side effects search and using my dosing I am absolutely convinced my lack of balance, weakness and a couple of other side effects is medication related. I printed off a copy of what I found on each drug. I will give a copy to my Doc.

Been doing the Physical Therapy thing. I can see a difference; Donnie can see a difference and the therapist can see a difference in balance. Although minor it is an improvement. I see him twice a week. Sometimes that might too often because I'm sore. There is one COG member who insist it's all in my head and all I need to do is exercise. Probably is in my head but not that way. There is something going on with nerves. But of course, the Doc's don't know what is going on.

I wish it were as simple as just exercise.

I now wear the same sized pants I did in high school. Too bad I didn't save some of those 70's clothes. ;)

Set Back.....legs swelling and can't do PT because I can't move the things to do any good. I have a small blood clot in the left leg causing the swelling. Right leg is starting to swell.

Clots can be nasty. Be careful. Pam almost died from a massive one in the saddle area of her lungs.

TIM. I do not know you & never met you. Sometimes life deals us a short stick. I have had it happen to me & somehow I got thru it. You have a lot of friends on this site hoping & praying you will come thru this. I read your posts and you are a great guy who helps other & does not ask nothing in return. My wife & I will pray for you to push thru this storm and get to the other side were the rainbow is waiting for you. I look forward to one day meeting you to ride together
God Bless you my friend. Dean & Charlotte Buffington

Sending prayers for you and your doctors. May the specialists move with a sense of urgency to tackle this before bigger issues manifest.
Keep us in the loop when you can sir! AB

Update.... A cat scan was done trying to figure out why the balance issue. Out of the blue they found I had a leak between the lower intestine connection, and it's hook up. Since having nasties going into the body cavity is not a good one, I found myself in the Wenatchee Hospital. I was in surgery the next morning which is sort of a loose term since it was done bed side. They took a small scope after being cleaned out of course and shot a staple and small clamps to seal off the area. Two weeks from now another cat scan to see if all is well. Plus, a lot of antibiotics. BTW blood clots in the legs have resolved.

Tim. Glad you found this out. That is a huge deal. We hope & pray you will come out of this. God is on your side my friend. I told you before I do not know you but I can feel your pain. I was in a bad motorcycle accident in the 70's and was in pin traction bed ridden for 6 months. I learned to walk again by a wheelchair pushing my feet across the floor. Hang in their my friend time heals all wounds. You have the heart of a lion and best of all you have a bunch of people praying for you to get well. Tim you can call me if you would like to. I would love to talk to you.

This is not why I wanted to come back into this thread, but Tim is about to finish his race. He is currently on comfort care at Regency Harmony House LTC in Brewster, WA. He is unable to talk or text with anybody, and only wakes for pain meds. His wife is hoping he can hang on until his daughters can get there to say goodbye.

The first time I met Tim was when I hosted a regional in Wenatchee, WA. He was recovering from a stroke after a heart attack, but he wanted to help any way he could. Since that day we rode thousands of miles in many states together, and when we weren't riding he was coaching me on how to properly shoot a rifle, or just hanging out enjoying conversations. Tim is a retired Navy veteran who did time in the Persian Gulf during Desert Storm, a retired police officer and is probably still listed as Mayor pro-tem in Brewster. He has always been a man of service, and he has shown many people how to be better.

Sending more prayers for a smooth ride into the endless highway for Tim, and peace for his family and friends as they watch him depart on his next adventure. Sad to see a good man go, but have confidence that he'll be there to greet everyone on the other side with a huge smile and stories about which roads are the best up there. Thanks for sharing the update with us Charlie.

Charlie -- Thank you for the update. I am sure that was not an easy post for you. We all share in the fond memories that Tim has given us in the NW and hope for a painless transition from this race to his next. This is such sad news for us here in the Northwest and for all who know Tim. Hugs and safe travels to Tim, his family and friends.

So sad for us PNW COGgers. I will always have fond memories of riding with Tim. Prayers for his wife and family.

Tim's funeral will be on Saturday, December 10th. That's all I know for now.
Charlie, thanks for keeping tabs.

Tim was one of the first COG people I met when I'd had my bike just 2 weeks (2013). I then roomed with Tim at Bun Cooler a few times; and rode with him and Charlie to the NW Montana gather (Libby?), and then with him down to 1st Lava Run in Sisters, OR. I'll look on my old computer to see if I can find photos for his remembrance...

Unfortunately I haven't been around much the last few years. So to my embarrassment, this is the first I have heard of any of this. It saddens me to hear this. Although I have never actually met Tim in person. I have interacted a lot and spoke with him on the phone in the past. He was a good person to me and probably much more so to the folks who had the pleasure to have known him. My thoughts and prayers to the family.

RIP Tim, you will be missed.

Although we never met I appreciated Tim’s open willingness to help, aid and provide support.

Condolences and support to Tim’s family and loved ones.

Wayne, Carol & Blue

"Tim was a great _______ and always ready to give some help to aspiring _______. Many of you have had to chance to ______ with Tim. He will be missed at our events."

A fellow from another slice of Tim's life said that, but I'm the one who replaced key words with blanks. When I read what he wrote, I realized that the first blank was something Tim loved doing, with the second blank indicating who he was helping while everyone involved was enjoying whatever the third blank is. Tim’s pie of life had many different slices, each with its own unique flavor. Each slice of pie put a different word into the blanks, with the common denominator being Tim and his giving nature. As long as we keep him in our hearts and thoughts, he will always be with us- we just can’t see him.

Tim's funeral will be December 10th 11:00 am at the community log church in Brewster, located at 209 4th St S, Brewster, WA 98812. A bereavement dinner is planned after the service at the Brewster American Legion, 102 E Main, Brewster, WA 98812, at 12:30

!!! I made a mistake with the address for the American Legion Hall, so I corrected it above.

I just wanted to remind anybody who thought about going to this that it's next Saturday. Ask around your immediate area if you're interested in carpooling.

I just joined the club, will be going to the national rally in June. I read this whole post. Wow! Quite moving. Tim was quite the man. It's really something to see the support given to him by this club.
My prayers go out to his family. I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible in June and being part of the fellowship that Tim enjoyed.

Tim was one of a kind, and his memorial service reflected that. As long as I keep him in my thoughts, he'll still be with me on rides.

Tim's wife asked me to pass on a message to those who met him through COG. Here it is-

Hi Charlie and Concours Riders,

I don’t like sending thank you’s by text or emails, but this is the easiest way to ensure the other Concours guys/gals receive my thanks.

Thank you for coming to Tim’s memorial service on March 25th, and for all the nice stories you shared. I know it was a long way to travel and an extra hardship for those who are not well, but it meant a lot to me and my family.

I was pleased how the memorial turned out and am glad we didn’t go through with it in December when we got a foot of snow. Tim was honored well, that’s all I wanted. He would have been thrilled you all were there.

The Concours Riders were important to him. You all have been so kind over the years. I remember one year someone drove him to the rally on his 3 wheeler. The times people by the house to visit meant a lot to us both. Tim always said you were a great group of people , he was right. Please stay safe out there.

Blessings,

Donnie Rieb
