Tis the season... K1 Gixxer 750 rescue

Diz said:
Some really nice refinements ZG! Now you'll have to ride in the rain; not let it look brand new  :)

Thx DZ  :beerchug:

:-\ rain? Na, no plans to ride the Gixxer on wet days, I'll stick to riding the VFR in the rain this winter, she loves it  ;D

Just short of amazing Jay, looks showroom new. If it turns into garage art just send it this way. I have just the garage for it!

Cliff  :beerchug:

Thanks Cliff, I will indeed keep your garage on the short list, you already have a garage art museum!  :great:

Say hello to the family for me, take care bro!  :beerchug:

One of the British magazines, Practical Sportsbikes, has featured several suzuki builds, like yours.

The interesting part of that was they claimed Suzuki was supporting older machines, like yours, that were considered to be "THE" bikes of their day.

Is that true, here in the US?  Does Suzuki really still have body parts and such for this machine?

I've heard that recently as well RC but have not seen that to be the case for bodywork, I was able to score a couple pieces and a tank from Suzuki Japan but that's all.  :??:

Would be cool if it's true!  :great: :motonoises:

Jay thats a sweet resto.  I loved the early blue and white 2000’s Gixxers.  AMA Mat Mladin winning everything in Superbike.  I had a 2005 Black/Blue 750 and it was a freaking BEAST

You've done well with it ZG... as expected!  :pDT_Armataz_01_37:

A competent rider on any of the early-2000 gsxr bikes can keep up with anything on the road today.
The only real drawback in my eyes(performance-wise) compared to new/er sportbikes is their lack of radial-mounted front brakes.
However, a well prepped/kept bike from 20 years ago will always be cooler...  :great:

I worked the front door of a bar in upstate NY back in 2001/2.
One night, a guy rode in on the then-new gsxr 1000. Black/charcoal with gold fork sliders, etc- It was about 3am when he eventually pulled out; dark & super foggy- I watched him disappear into the mist then listened to him slowly go all the way thru 1st & shift into 2nd... he kept slowing winding-it-out until I couldn't hear him anymore.
Never did I hear him hit 3rd- I'll never forget the sound of that engine's revs climbing into a distant scream then into a disappearing echo thru the woods. All the while thinking DAMN... it must redline at 18k!
I also vaguely remember thinking that he was CRAZY for riding it like that with such a lack of visibility. He could have been one of The Lost Boys for all I knew-

Enjoy the ride buddy.  :beerchug:

Thx LT  :beerchug:

Indeed, it seems the older we get the cooler older bikes are...  ;D

Great story man, they do sound great winding up the rpm's, I'm having a blast with it!  :motonoises:  :)

Incredible attention to detail on both your bikes! You two made a great Marine :beerchug:

Hey guys n gals, I just bought another Gixxer, brand new still in the crate!  :-\

;D  :great:

Back under the knife for more NOS bits being installed, upper stay, upper triple clamp, lockset, top of forks nuts, and more, since we had to pull the entire front end anyways I've opted to try out the NOS red/silver set of bodywork...

>:D

Debating on running the white wheels or should I run the black wheels? Any input from COG?  :??:

Black to go with the black accents on the silver.

Be aware, my wife says I have no color sense.... ::) :D

Great looking bike, btw, no matter what skins you have on it.

If she is only a sunny day drive, run black wheels. Dirt won't show cause you aren't driving through puddles but those white rims are sharp!

Thx guys  :beerchug:

I think I'm gonna run the white wheels with the silver (K3) upper and red front fender for a bit, watcha think?

I'll switch it over to the black K1 upper, black fender, and black wheels before Christmas, which will put me right on target for having the restoration done in a year. Good times.  ;D

love following this thread and have a major soft spot for these.  While I prefer the blue it must be fun changing colors and keeping it fresh.

One more... 3 Gixxers from 3 decades.  :great:

Restoration complete!  :great:

Got the black upper, fender, and wheels on, she's straight off the 2001 showroom floor now. Great dry Fall day in the PNW today, got her out for a rip, I'm so stoked how she came out.  ;D

Thanks all, it was a really fun build, took a couple turns along the way but I am extremely happy with the end result.  :great:

Here's some progression pics from the past 10 months, lets see how many folks know there Gixxer's enough to spot the subtle tweaks.

Diz said:
I don't know Gixxers but I will say the changes I see are brakes, sprocket, chain and sliders

Good eye DZ, yep the bike had well used oem calipers n rotors when I bought it, replaced those with the one thou 6 pot calipers and new EBC rotors front n rear, also the rear undertail, it had a cut oem rear fender that I replaced with a Hot Bodies undertail. After replacing all those, within a thousand miles I pulled them all back off and went with oem NOS, should have just gone that direction from the begining.

  Oh well, live n learn  :truce: ;D

Haven't posted on this thread for awhile, sorry about that, I still have the Gixxer and am enjoying the heck out of her, she was my daily ride for the most part all summer.

Out at Cars and Coffee this morning with some fellow COG brothers, it was motorcycle theme day, I brought the Gixxer, she represented well, received some great feedback from folks there.  :great: :great:

Just a couple more month's, we're coming up on the 20 year anniversary of the red white & blue Y-model year Gixxer (2000), this weekend I dug out all my NOS Y-body boxes and white wheels, the Gixxer is going into the shop for some other love, while up there I think I'll have the red white & blue put on...
>:D

God bless America!  ;D

Is it done yet? Pics?

I hit them with a text for an update and got these 3 pics for a reply, looks like they've got the forks all done and white wheels mounted so far...
>:D

Jay those pics are awesome. like always you are going to end up with a purdy and detailed bike.

Here's a couple pics with the red white & blue Y-body on, 20 year anniversary coming up in a month n'a half, crazy how fast time goes!

NOW THAT IS SOME SERIOUS BIKE PORN!

It's going to be dry tomorrow, bring it over so I can take'r for a rip. :great:

Always good seeing you bro, hope you enjoyed riding the Gixxer this morning!  :motonoises:

Once you move away in couple weeks we won't be able to share stables...  :'(

Maybe I'll have to find an RC51 down in AZ to buy and keep at yer new place.  ;D

Thanks for letting me take’r for a ride brotha. :motonoises: Sucks a cop went by and spooked me, I wanted to open it up and see a buck sixty today. :truce:

Gumby; you have to insist that ZG buy 2 (two) matching Hondas, yamahas, Kawas, whatever you want to achieve a buck sixty upon. Should not be a debate If he comes for a visit, its only right he supply the rides You are storing, caring and protecting the bikes awaiting is arrival.

Now that's a GREAT picture, ZG!

Thx, my nephew, I'm getting him into bikes young, I sure wish there were bikes like this when I was his age. I wonder what the bikes will be like when he's our age?

Have had dozens of bikes over the years, but never a yellow one. Have pieced together a full set of the y-body in the yellow, an even more rare bird than the red white & blue.  :great:

What color are the wheels going to be? Matching yellow?

I actually just got the wheels back from the powder coater, we used Prismatic Alien Silver, it's spot on to the oem silver for that year, it took us 3 wrong silvers to find it, I'm stoked with how they turned out!
:great: :great:

Finishing off the Gixxer restoration with the last bits, she's 100% oem now, even removed my Zumo, TPX, and heated grips. While up there also switching over to the rare Ybody in the unicorn yellow, this will be my first yellow bike so that's pretty exciting, also can't wait to see the silver wheels we had powdercoated last year mounted up.

>:D

Happy Valentines Day Gixxer, new dress and shoes, she's so spoiled!  :-*

The SP looks to be photobombing...

I'm not usually a fan of yellow, but that looks great.    :great:

Wow! Silver wheels are a great refinement. Are those right angle valve stems? Very cool!

Gumby said:
Bike porn at its best. :great:

Thx brothers! Now if I can just stay mellow yellow on it and out of trouble  :49:

Uh oh, seeing double? Brought home another COVID rescue today! :)

She's a 2000 GSXR750, 29k miles, clean title, needs a little TLC n love but I think I already have spares of the parts needed, runs and rides as is now. I think I'll put the set of red/wht/blu 00 bodywork and white wheels on her.

On to the next... (y)(y)

jay, I've always have enjoyed your projects. You have a good eye.

Thank you Tim, you hang in there and keep fighting the fight, we're all praying for you and a speedy recovery, many happy miles to your future sir! :coffee:

Maybe when done you'll want to buy this one eh? :)
I can't believe how hard it is to find one! I STILL look. I got a harley itch too... been looking for a xr1200x for 2 years now. Midwest sucks for bike buying

True that, I'd been looking for quite awhile pretty much daily across the US with a half dozen different search engines, this one it turns out I actually had a chance at buying earlier this year for twice the price and then it disappeared from the listings, but then it popped back up cheap and I grabbed it the next day, owner was moving out of state and wasn't going to have a garage at the new place so needed it to sell quick, right place right time. :)

I dropped it off at my local shop last weekend while I gather my replacement parts together from garage boxes and order a few parts needed that I don't have. I've decided to put the white wheels and red/wht/blu bodywork on her, and going all oem stock on this one too, it seems that brings the most $ for them going forward now at 20 years old. We'll be pulling the full Yosh system and Power commander off to sell on ebay along with the set of yellow bodywork that was on it, I already have a full set of the yellow oem bodywork on my other K1 currently so don't need a 2nd set of that color, I'll prob keep the wheels that came on it for future if needed, they're in excellent condition with zeo lip rash. Selling the Yosh, PC, and bodywork will help to cover the labor costs at my local shop. Good times!

And here we go again, restoration part deux... :coffee:

Just got her home and she's getting to know her stable mates, def need to get both of the K1 Gixxers out together on the road someday, that would be pretty cool, maybe next summer when Gumby comes back to the PNW for a visit.

I'm happy to have been able to share some of my builds and restoration bikes with ya'll over the years, I have made some life long friends in COG and many good times in past and future ahead I hope. I truly mean no disrespect and have no enemies in COG, but my membership expires next week I think the 11th and I hadn't planned to renew it this time. Nothing negative, I haven't had a Connie for many years now and the only section I really look at on the forum anymore is this other bike section. Between not using the COG forum much, not having a Connie, not reading the mag, and Gumby moving to AZ, I'd planned to remain a forum only member but it seems with the new rules I won't be able to post on the forum anymore. No worries, and no hard feelings, I'm sure I'll cross paths with many of you in the future at other bike rallies and forums etc. Just thought I should mention it now so that you don't think I'm ghosting you on the forum going forward, take care all and be safe out there!

Hate to see you go Jay, but there is always the "other" forum. Traffic seems to have increased over there since the changes that were made for forum only folks. It saddens me to say this, but between the rule change for forum folks and how some long time members were treated, we seem to be losing some very good people. Keep the rubber side down!

When things get back to normal, don't forget the Bun Cooler. I know there are some who would like to see you on your Honda. One of these times I should bring the 900 and some chain lube.

I have enjoyed following your build's. You inspired me to do one of my own. A crashed 2005 Kawasaki ZX10R. It was a blast and thanks to ma Kawasaki for having and making every piece of body work including the fuel tank. I will check you out on the Gixxer forum. Thanks for the inspiration of a 64 year young man. Stay safe

I have to say Jay, you did well & they look simply amazing. (y)

Your garage is looking a little cluttered, don't forget I have loads of room. You just keep buying, when you can't hold anymore just ship them this way & I'll hold them for ya. I want even notice a dozen or so! 😁
