Top Case Compatibility

Will the factory mount points (and plate if it's still there) work with items like the below, or will it require significant modification and other mounting framework? There are a handful of similar models of varying size, all with the bottom plate that mounts to the bike somehow.

I don't see any dimensions for the base.
It does look like a Monolock copy, maybe it shares dimensions.
My recollection is that the rack mount is very simple, so with spacers and longer bolts you may be able to get it to work.

I put a “Phil’s rack” on my C-14 and I think he supplies a SWMotech plate kit for it. Looks like the one Jorge refers to.(wedge in the back and two mushroom posts in front).

If you remove the OEM Rack, you can use it's mounting bolt locations to attach to your rack.
You may have to drill some holes in your rack if the hole sin it doesn't align.

NOTE: For some reason, the rack on the C-10 is not quite level. Slants down at the rear.
You can add some washers at the rear holes to make it level.

I've yet to even remove the cover on the rack. Does any reinforcement need to be made to the area or is there plenty of strength under those mount points?

I mounted my Givi 52 on em 4 years ago
No problem
As Ted suggested, you may want to shim the rear bolts to make it sit level. I used steel bushings from Ace. Looks much nicer. And makes your tail light more visible in day lightIMG_3005.jpeg

Looks very nice on the back. Now I know what to look out for when I'm riding into Lebanon. 😁🤣

Sounds like I should have no problem at all as long as I'm able to adapt the mounting plate from whichever case I use to the mount points. There are a few different cases at really good pricepoints across ebay. Givi has a few models of interest as well.

Forgot to mention earlier that you will probably need to buy longer bolts to do the mount.

The Rack mounts are attached to the steel sub-frame below the plastic.
Plenty of strength.

Rob,
I’ve got a Givi 42 ( 47 I can’t remember) trunk I’m no longer using. I replaced it my new Givi trunk in the picture
It’s in Very good condition, with Givi back rest, Admore light kit ( brake and turn) and Givi mounting plates.
I’ve got $150 in it.
I’ll send ya some pictures if yer interested
I’m out of town for the next several days
Bob

Rob, again , it's been a while , but I believe the bolts go right into the rear sub-frame, so plenty strong.

Out of curiosity...when I eventually go to the C14, are most of these top cases transferable? (with any expected new hardware and mounting plate modifications, of course)

Mine was, with the Phils Rack kit and SW Motech plate.

I found a way to mount the same givi 46?case to 3, C10 and a C14. One of the C10 had a back rest with a luggage rack and the others stock. I love "Making It Work" I did a lot of that at work.

From a separate conversation with Bob... the case is the Monokey V46.

Yes, any Top Case can be used on both bikes.
It's just a matter of doing a few modifications to the mounting plate.
So, EZ that even ONOBob could do it. <evil grin>

Hey everyone. Time to update this thread as I'm finally working on mounting the Givi case that I bought from @ONOBob.
Work, weather, and time just haven't been in sync much lately.

I've got various bolts to work with, including some M8x1.25 that are more than long enough and a selection of m4-m6.

I remember it coming up in conversation, though I cannot remember the answer. When I was doing measuring recently, and it seems like there is about a 0.25" drop from the front rack bolts to the rear. Does this seem right? I understand that many use spacers between the metal adapter plate and the rack mount. What length spacers would you start off with? Keep in mind that in my case, there will be a small space between the adapter plate and the mount plate of the givi case itself, where I know it would typically be flush against it. The plate I'm using is a 254x254x5mm plate of 6061 aluminum. I have an image on this PC some where that gives me a base idea of where the case mount bolt holes are in relation to the original rack bolt holes.

Look back at your post of your windshield. I gave you the dimensions and pictures of the parts in the Gigi kit.

The spacers are about 0.750" tall split by 0.500" and 1.00" diameters. The spacers go under the steel plate and mount into the factory rack holes under the tail cover. If you zoom in on my 05 you can see the spacers.

When I did mine, I selected SS washers as my spacers. They fit into the recess of the rear fender where the bolts are located.
I did this so that the spacers (washers) don't add stress to the plastic.
I added washers until the case set level. {I think I used 1 or 2 in the front recess, and 3 or 4 in the rear recess}.

Thank you. I had forgotten that my windshield thread turned into a mount plate thread (by my own doing, of course.)

If I'm seeing those spacers correctly in the bike image, the 0.5" portion serves the same purpose as the washers that @connie_rider inserted between the plastic and the bolt holes in the frame. Is that correct?

Combining the two ideas, it sounds like if I make the rear spacers 3–4mm taller (based on the height of 2 DIN120 M8 SS washers), it would take care of the height, stabilization, and most any perceived rear tilt.

Do those spacers come with the original adapter kit or are they something you fabricated/obtained? (Just a curiosity as I'm aware they are no longer available) I would likely start off by making them out of PETG or ABS to start with. PLA would probably hold up well since they aren't exposed to direct sunlight.

For those manufacturing their own plate, I wonder if anyone has ever used the factory surface mount rack as their spacer, possibly adding a bit of reinforcement. Seems like it would almost work except for the lack of support under the thin edges in each of the square holes. Mostly disregard that.

Misc information for anyone interested, or if you would like to add it to your photo, the spacing between the front factory mounting holes is 200mm. The spacing between the rear holes is 174mm. I'm more statistics and excel than trig, so using a handy calculator for an isosceles trapezoid. Results below, if they are useful to anyone. It makes me wonder how off my measurements are.

Either way, it gives me something to work with when I get back home from work, tonight. Thanks, guys. @connie_rider @Jpd11958

The spacers are from the Givi kit. Yes the small diameter goes down into the tail fairing onto the subframe. All 4 are the same size. 4 larger bolts hold the adapter plate to the bike and 6 smaller bolts hold the mount to the adapter. In my picture of the kit I am missing 2 small bolts and square washers. The square washers fit the holes in the mount plate and gives it some wiggle room for alignment before tightening.

I would use the original rack you removed to get the hole spacing to mount your adapter plate, then set the mount on it and find the best places for its attach holes. Resize the adapter plate as needed to make it work and look good. Make sure you mount the case with enough clearance to remove the seat.
