Howdy, ya'll.

Would like to start researching a top case for my C10. I'd like something large enough for my helmet (large enough for two would be great), and something that doesn't look like a spaceship and compliments the look of the bike. Too bad Kawasaki never made a matching top case.

I'm confused as to bracketry, etc.

Also, I have the factory passenger backrest - can I keep this or do I have to lose it for the trunk?

If you people could post pics, that would be most helpful.

Thank you!

Here is a JCW install (JC Whitney) on a 2002. Trunk mount plate attaches directly to the OEM 'luggage rack' mount bolts.

Folks have mounted Shad trunks on c10's for years. I myself had a Givi trunk, with backrest pad mounted to it and the optional rack on top for gear. From what ive seen on the forum, folks are having a difficult time locating the mounting plate for the Givi.

Keep an eye on the for sale area of the forum. Trunks come up for sale from time to time..

Thank you! How large is that? I’m hoping to find something large enough for a helmet (or two), and hopefully something I can mount without losing the factory backrest…

I think its 40 or 42 Liters.

Thanks for all the info, folks!

One of my main concerns is the durability of the factory rack/plate that's on my bike - I don't like it. I've been doing some reading on the forum about Phil's Racks, but I can't seem to find anything beyond the mention of his name.

Other than that, does anyone have leads on the factory rack for the C10? Not the little plastic plate I already have, but a nice sturdy aluminum/steel one.

Thanks!

Phil doesnt make a rear rack for the c10, only the c14.

Iifc when i put my givi trunk on my c10, the mounting rack (e128) swaps out for the plastic stock one. There were spacers that held the rack up off the bidywork. The center section of the rack is removable for mounting purposes. Underneath that center section is a honeycomb grid that aligns with the bolt pattern. The e128 was a universal rack that fit other bikes as well.

If you want to go inexpensive, here is one that is very similar to the one Stasch posted above:

Volume and dimensions are listed on the site. Probably good for one helmet, not two.
Thank you, guys!

To be honest, I'm leaning more towards something on the pricier side - like Hepco & Becker.

Call me crazy, but I like the adventure-style aluminum hard panniers, and my bags are in rough-ish shape, and I like the rack H&B makes:

Roast me - I'm ready for it LOL

Wow!!! And that's just for the rack....i guess u missed the memo about how frugal (cheap) we coggers are....
Haha. I try to be frugal/cheap as well, but I don't mind spending money on good quality stuff. I'm hoping this bike can give me many more years of reliable service, so I'm not against putting money into it.

Anyway, that's for another day - we'll see where things go.

I bought a Givi for my C10 and the Givi plate to go with it. Mounted it to the OEM rack. If your helmets are small, you might get 2.

I may still have the Givi plate.

Hey Colt45

If you still have the Givi plate I might be interested in it. I have a Givi 42 I would like to mount on my vintage bike
Best Regards

I installed the Comie top case (Amazon Link) for $82. Used 1"x Aluminum square tube. Cut off using a sawsall and drilled holes using a stepped hole drill. Removed the stock rack and mounted diredtly to the OEM screws. 8mm x 1.25. Used 6mm x 1.0 for the case base. Cut the tubing short enough to use a wrench to reach the front bolts of the base. I cut holes in the side to use plyers to hold/start the nut.

To mount the brackets, use the OEM rack as a template for the holes on the bottom, drill through then elarge the top holes to drop thorough the hex bolt with (slide a washer up). I also stacked 2 fender washers on the front and 3 on the back to get the bracket solid and off the plastic.

Once fully tested for a while, will remove everything and paint black.

Cheap plastic cutting boards work good to mount to the OEM tail rack holes then mount box or box mounting plate to cutting board.
The cutting board needs to be shimmed up on the rear OEM holes as bike1918 did with the aluminium tubing to have the box follow the lines of the bike.

I’m getting ready to modify the mounting bracket for my GIVI outback trunk. I already have it and I am cheap. Won’t use it much but it is waterproof & durable. I do t think the base bracket will be noticeable much @ all. I won’t roast you man. 😀
