Don't Worry PM's or Private Messages are still available, they are now called Conversations..

To start a conversation with a person a within a forum thread, click on the forum name of the person you want converse with a then Start Conversations.

To view your conversations, select the envelope at the top right portion of the screen beside your name. Conversations can also be created here also.
