So decided to do a 90 degree rotate to my homemade trunk to make it open fully like I should have done to begin with. The 'grooves' on the top also align better with the contour lines on the bags. The 60+ year old plastic had started to crack at the mounting points due to not enough support so I made a bottom plate of 1/4" hardboard. on the side stand the lid stay open perfectly. Just need to finish the inside with some nice felt or fabric. She is filthy.

You have taken on a cool project! I love the "waki-saki" plate (where is that from?!?).
Thanks, I just made the (pr) "whacky-sacky" nameplate out of the salvaged letters from the Kawasaki tank badges when I debadged her. Got the blue backplate from our local trophy shop at the bowling alley. The case is from a circa 1960 magnetic tape drive carrying case, think NASA computers sending rockets to moon from mission control style.
