I've had a Zumo 550 for a while now and I have to say that it's pretty awesome. I don't listen to music on it because I use a Pioneer Inno for that but it does have a good array of useful tools. If I don't have a destination plugged in, I keep it on the screen that shows an odometer, speedometer, fuel odometer and compass direction. Anyway, there is a 'more' button on this screen that gives you access to other meters. One of them is a 'top speed' meter that keeps the highest speed you've been at since last reset. The number I found there was shocking and downright naughty, as in if it had appeared on a radar gun the trooper who read it would have put my license in his shirt pocket and said 'Well, you won't be needing this for a while.'. I know I get aggressive when passing from time to time, but I didn't know I'd been THAT aggressive. It was a good reminder to me that motorcycling can be dangerous and in most cases the rider is the one to blame for his crash because he did something dumb, like exceeding the speed limit by an inexcusable amount. It also reminded me that the Concours is a sportbike at heart and while not on par with today's sport machines, she's got plenty to get you in real trouble plus about 50mph.

Zumo 550 shocker

Ther eis lots of data collected in most Garmin GPS... I can download the track files from my 276C into Mapsource and view all specifics at each log point interval (ie lat, long, alt, speed, etc.) For the longest time the top speed recorded in my GPS was 300+ MPH.... attained while usiong the GPS in a commerical airliner. -- Steve Smith, #3184 COG Northeast Area Director (somewhere in south central CT) If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space.
I remember showing my wife Tracey the Zumo a few months after I got it. I was showing her how to use it in the car. Then THAT screen came up with my top speed. Shocked us both! I've found the www.zumoforums.com site to be very helpful. Lots of hidden treasures and ways to resolve issues. I'm thinking of hacking some of the code to increase the speach volume (my shorty shield even with ear plugs is very loud from air). I used a proximity alert with a audible alert for my ride I hosted to mark a hidden stop sign 1/4 mile ahead. Cool stuff. You'll see those high speeds sometimes when you deviate from your planned route. The GPS thinks your still on the purple line then when it figures out that your not it snaps over to your actual location. It then gives a huge top speed number. Interesting, just a coupl of days ago, I put wifes Nuvi on that screen and we were both shocked to see 133mph. She accused me of using on the conie. Its in our Maxda5. I don't think it or my 90 conie would attain that number. I know I wouldn't even if it could. Now the mystery is solved.

It is also a good recommendation to know the location of these features and regularly clear them. If you get a "savy" officer they might just make an inquiry as to your basic habits. Granted they can not charge you based on this info, but rest assured it'll end up in their notes with the ticket. I routinely and regularly clear mine. MAX SPEED! AKA "2linby" That's 2-lin-by folks! Even before the ride that day he says that I never go over 70 so here we are tooling around at 70, and I ask him how come he was going so fast, his reply was I was gettin to close to him coming out of the corners :quest: That is the first time ever on one of our rides that he ever tryed to get away usely he has to wait up :eg:
