Electric rides

I had a Tesla for 4 days in JAX last week. Acceleration was really good. Planned my days around when I could get charged up. Interesting experience. Not sure I want to give up my gassers. Don't have a supercharger within 45 miles of my house. We are a long way from having infrastructure out here in the "Fly Over" states. I'll ride the bike more to contribute to the MPG and energy needs.
 
Hydrogen ICE and Hydrogen fuel cells.
No batteries needed for storage (tanks only), and infrastructure (IMO) easier to roll out.

I have listened with interest for a couple of decades about Hydrogen. My pops has been dead for 20 years and he was talking about it for a years before he passed
 
Local shopping mall installed 20 Tesla battery chargers is a snap,

First, they installed a good size transformer and dug some trenches, then wam bam thank you man, quick and easy.
 
Good business sense. They make a little money from the chargers, and they attract drivers of EVs.
I just looked; our county (30 miles x 15 miles) appears to have 2 locations: a Chevy dealer and the casino. Indianapolis (35 milesaway) looks like it has a decent number of locations.
 
The bottom line is most will charge at home, just run a new line to the box,

electric panels are often in the garage anyhow, childs play,

Within two to three years solid state will become the norm and everything will change,

The batteries we have today are crude compared to whats coming...
 
What happens to the fed and states coffers when the transition away from ICE is further down the road and the tax revenues fall off? I think it already has in California.... Teslas and other electric vehicles are everywhere out here in Socal.

What will be the redirect for revenue generation to maintain and improve roads, bridges and interstates? Or, has that already been factored in and I am not aware of how they recoup lost revenue?
 
My biggest current concern with EVs is where the electricity is gonna come from; I'm a SoCal native. They AGGRESSIVELY push clean energy, which is a good thing. Problem is, they haven't been doing enough investing in alternate energy sources. That, coupled with the shutdown of the nuclear powerplants, has led to a situation where they have rolling blackouts in the summer. Due to the heat and the subsequent load of all the ACs on the grid.

So now we're gonna add hundreds of thousands of cars (CA has ruled that agencies will not be allowed to purchase ICE cars after I think 2030) to a 100 year old electical grid, while shutting down one of the most efficient power sources (nuclear), and with the Hoover Dam producing less and less power as the Colorado dries up...

I just don't see the math.

I REALLY hope MIT figures out the Tokamak and is able to make it commercially viable. And soon.

And that we find a less environmentally destructive way of extracting the minerals needed to make the batteries. And that we can either find alternatives or source the rare earth minerals required to make the batteries from somewhere other than our main geopolitical rivals.

And I hope we figure out how to make them lighter, since a world full of 9000lb Hummer EVs with a 0-60mph time under 4 seconds and teens (or LORD forbid, Maryland drivers.... 😶) driving them would be GREAT for pedestrians. To say nothing of the effects on the actual roads....
