'15 National Rally North Central Non-Attendees query

  For those of us in the Lake Erie region who'er NOT making the ride out west for the National Rally, I've got a question;
Would you be willing to gather for a weekend outing at Lake Hope State Park just west of Athens, Ohio?

Trying to get an idea of how many would be interested in this before I proceed any further.

Oh...looks like the weekend of June 20th/21st would be optimal as far as cabin availability goes(as of today).

Arrive friday aftnoon...depart Sunday the 21st.

Sounds pretty good to me. :great:

Hey there Mark, like I posted on the other forum, just sendin' feelers out now, prolly won't pull the trigger & make it a done deal until mid-late January.
If'n there's only 2-3 interested I'm probably not going thru w/ it... :-\

although this place( http://www.millstonebbq.com/) would be a good replacement ride for the hog heaven bbq ride that was cancelled last month

Is this idea open to those of us outside of your area?

I'm 24 hours from Cortez and I just might not have the time. Plenty to do around here but I've not ridden much in Ohio. Just passed through.

Oh, I'm sure it is, Fais.  It would be great to see ya again...and hear some of your tales from all those miles you've been rackin' up! :great:
And I hear southeast Ohio is great riding.  It's time for me to find out fer-cryin-out-loud, I live close enough to it!

:great: :beerchug: :great:

The National was in my backyard this year.  AND I had time. Doubtful 2015 will be so forgiving.

Definetly open to anyone :great:....Like I mentioned earlier to Mark, just throwing a feeler out there(stirrin' the pot) :)
Won't give the green light until mid-late January....

Sounds pretty good. I've heard a LOT about the roads in that area.
Jorge

PS: only is Flatspot is not going :pokestick:

Ummm....Jorge,  did you misread it,  did I mistype it,  or are ya just grossin' me?  ::)  I'll be there.  :nananana: And I imagine we'll be riding there together. :motonoises:
I'm gonna ride tomorrow and Sunday.  Haven't had a chance since I wrenched on the full AreaP exhaust.  Man, I'm hating this winter already.

Me too Mark, haven;t ridden for several weeks, between travelling and so on.
I was trying to poke you, but you don't bug very easily my friend.
If I go, absolutely about riding there together; that'd be half the fun. If Irene decides to ride her own, we might have to slow down... quite a bit  :-X
Either way, it would be fun.

Jorge

Still on the back burner.....at least thru January.....

  UNLESS >:D

someone else wants to run w/ it! :)

I'm good w/ sharing cabin space, but can't even think about commiting until next month.. :(

Hey guys... just to bring the topic about the non-rally up again :)
Irene and I are planning on this at this point. We're OK with sharing cabin space with others. I know some of the cabins have one room with a larger bed, and the other rooms with two twin sized beds, so we'd be happy with this  :great:
I'm passing the word along to our AAD, so he can let others know about this. At this point, there may be only one or two going to the National from Indiana, so this might be a good alternative. We're just under 4 hrs from the park, so very doable leaving after work Friday, or a little earlier.
This sounds like it might be a fun "non-rally".
Dean, Not sure there is much more to prepare, other than people saying "I'll be there", and then showing up. If only a few show, that's OK, if a lot show, that's OK too.
Mark, if you read this, are you still in? ou could come down and we could meet up somewhere on the Eastern side of the state.
Jorge

Is this the Moonshine Lunch crowd?

I may have to catch you guys for that one since I'm making the trip to Cortez.

Sorry Al, wrong choice of words.  I was just referring to my immediate group that Fais and I had talked about a bit in another thread.
Yep, Moonshine is a big crowd, w/COG represented well, as I understand it.

OK... 1st cabin is reserved for the MOLHSPNR15!
There are several other cabins still available on the same Park Road. We have Cabin #55, at the end of the cul-de-sac. Looks like plenty of parking. I called and they said it would not be a problem to have more than 2 bikes per cabin, but we will need to double up on spots to not take other's parking places (this is my comment, not the reservation agent).
Hope to see many there. It won't be the National  :'( but at least we can have a nice couple of days with good riding.

Jorge

Dean, I'm off that weekend but will have to check to see if anyone's on vacation then, If so then I'll have to work. But I'd love to go. What time is check in and how long would it take to ride there say from Fort Street and Eureka? ;D

Mike,
Depends on the routing...  Our "normal" route has been to slab it to US23 just west of Woodville & head south to Rt95(Marion) & would be a little over 5 hrs..
  • S on 95 to  Rt13(Fredricktown)
  • S on 13 to Rt661(Mt Vernon)
  • S on 661 to Rt37(Granville)
  • S on 37 to US33(Lancaster)
  • S on 33 to Rt328(Logan area)
  • S on 328 to Rt56
  • E on 56 to Rt278
  • S on 278 to the park

If you stayed on US23 thru Columbus & continued on US33 down to the State Park, it would be a little over 4 hrs.

Columbus is one of the best places from which to get a terrific daughter-in-law  :great:

I occurred to me a few days ago, that some of the COGgers that live East of us could stop by on their way back home...

Jorge

I'd rather take the long route, I'm allergic to Columbus. :D

  Go Blue!!! ;D

All kidding aside, on US23 south of Delaware about 5 miles, exit onto Rt315 & ride that all the way until it merges onto I-71 south(in C-town). Continue south about 2 miles, to exit#104(Frank Rd.) heading east about 2 miles, returning to US23 again.  It follows the Olentangy River & is a nice diversion from the downtown stretch of the big city. Continue south on US23 to Rt56 in Circleville.(approx 4.5 hrs)

We've also taken US68 south from Findlay to Rt31(Kenton) toRt38(Marysville) to Rt56(London) to Rt278 to the park.(5 hrs.)

Just bumping this thread.
Can't go to Cortez?  Join us in the twisty part of Ohio!  :motonoises: :great:

In ...

be happy to get back to roads I know and love. Great area for riding. New bike needing a shakedown. Old body needing a shakedown. Took the last cabin.

Tom, We'll bring the good camera... you need a new avatar  :great:

Actually, we can set up "Killboy style" and have the group ride past for photos.

Jorge

Put this up on the other forum. If no one jumps in to lead I put together a map of roads we ride regularly. Can be lengthened to include Marietta or shortened by starting in on 78 at Nelsonville. Good roads, sparse traffic and decent food. My son played college ball in Athens and laurie lives in Lancaster so most of my last decade has been spent in this neighborhood.

I am in. Got an extra room for Friday night if anyone needs one. Company coming Saturday evening. Bringing the CPAP so no worries. Put a route up from Lake Hope to McConnellsville to Beverly to The Plains and back to Lake Hope. Seems like a decent route on roads we have regularly ridden. Ribs for lunch in McConnelsville?

or my favorite in McConnelsville http://www.yelp.com/biz/boondocks-bbq-and-grill-mcconnelsville?osq=lunch

Have you done any riding Freebird? I will be available for that weekend.

Still under 1k on the new bike but been taking progressively longer days to get ready.  Sneak preview for those who are not in the area frequently. Any of these are easy day rides out of Lake Hope. I incorporated a couple into the route I posted above.

COming from IN My regular route to Lauries passing by my moms house off 571

http://www.motorcycleroads.com/75/1751/Ohio/Ohio-Route-260.html

Agree with the alternate through Cols. posted above. For the times I am in the cage coming from IN. I have used the 315 cutoff to Frank Road for years. Mostly use 56 on the bike from either Urbana to circleville or Union City via 571 to US 40 to 56. Columbux and the road constrxn is stupid right now. SO I avoid by using 37 on the east side and 56 on the west.

those are all awesome roads, ridden them all, and many more "cut thru" roads between them....

the fellow that shot those vids has an awesome collection on youtube of some, my favorite two roads are sr26, and sr145
leased an old farmhouse on 100 acres on 145 from the early 80's thru '93, it was burned down by the guy that shot a bunch of folks on backroads in that area, the sherrif caught him finally... but I lost a great piece of land and hunting lodge... bums me out..

thanks for posting those up,  :beerchug: :great:

MOB... Join us!
Not sure how many will be there, but it should be fun :)
Jorge

momma put the clampdown on me over money yesterday, and I can't afford the plate for my tow behind trailer for the bike, so if I can convince her, I'll load the bike for an overnighter, and roll down tomorrow... its only a couple hour ride from my place.

this jobless thing sux bigtime. I need a ride, and to hang with some COG people...

what's the head count up to now, and how many are staying for more than the weekend?

batten down the hatches kids... tie the bikes down.....
hartville had a tornado, and you got severe weather heading for you currently...
stay safe, I think I'm staying home...

Well......left the house o' dark thirty saturday dry conditions....that lasted all of 35 miles(about 2-3 miles north of the Buckeye)!!!  Had to deal w/ the fish flys(close proximity to Lake Erie) while suiting up too :(
Rest of the 270 miles was like this: rain....heavy rain...light rain...slight drizzle...rain...heavy rain...drizzle....no rain ...arrive at the cabin...start to unpack...rain...heavy rain...rain...bee...essin' in the cabin....heavy rain...lights go out, no power...can't even hit up the lodge for any meals... ???  Thankfully, freebird6(Tom Freeman) & his sweetie came to the rescue w/ some charcoal/burgers/brats/chips
Today however... :great: start out a little foggy..SUN came out for the ride ALL THE WAY HOME!!! :)
Still a good trip!

Dean... Saturday was really "staying for the people" :))

It was not what any of us planned, but it was a good weekend. Really glad Irene and I got to know you, and today was a great day :great:

Glad to have spent the last day & a half w/you & Irene also! :great:

Despite a WET Fri. & Sat.,  I had a great weekend!  Nice sunny ride home today. Nice cabins to sit out rain.  Thanks Jorge, Irene, Tom, Laurie, Dean.
I think this is the only photo of the weekend, taken by Irene.

Had a great weekend with good folks. Power outages and lack of amenities then the neighbors came home at 1 am and proceeded to break up firewood with out an axe. Loud noises from the neighbors at 1 am is not a good thing.

First time I was ever at Lake Hope and did not have a great situation.

Truly enjoyed the folks and the down time. Good to get back on the bike and ride.

Great pic in front of the local diner.
