any ideas on changing bars or extending them

First off is the bike a C10 or C14? Then you would be better off placing this in that bikes section. You will probably get more responses there. The moderator could move it for you, once the bike is known!  ;)

When I meant what year and the section. I meant to tell us what year. Then we would move it up to the section. In this case the C10 section. This is Locksmith's section, but I'll help out an now merge your two threads into one, then move it to the C10 accessory section.
If you want to extend the bars, you might be interested in a pair of bar risers. The C10 accessory section will probably give you some idea's. I'll even look up some stuff for you.

OK, now that we're up in the C10 accessory section. Let's look for what might work for you.

How about different handle bars? Here are brackets that Murph sells to adapt other bars onto the C10. You can even get bars from Murph as well:

Or how about just risers to raise the bars up and back a little? How about a rise of 1-3/8", with 5/8" back set? Well then maybe Murph's risers will work for you:

Or maybe you would like Genmar risers that a 1 1/4" rise? here's a link to Genmar:

Well that should get you off to a start. good luck!
