Anyone ever attach a radar detector to a Rifle windshield?

I just got this Beltronics 955 radar detector.  I want to mount it to the '04 Connie and not sure where.  I don't like things mounted to my handlebars.  This leaves me open area to get wild!  No but really I have read many postings about mounting to the instrument panel visor/dash.  This sounded great, but I forgot I have a Rifle windshield.  The Rifle has it's own dash however it's much shallower front to back.  So I'm stuck with what to do......

My first frugal idea was to velcro the piss out of it.  Run a long, wide piece on the dash which would extend maybe 4-5 inches past the device's sides.  Put the opposing side of velcro on the bottom of the device that lines up with the strip on the dash.  Also, attach velcro on the top of the device that lines up with the strip on the dash. Place the detector in the center of the strip attached to the dash.  Then run a long piece of velcro from one end of the strip attached to the dash to the other, going over the device.  This seems like a tremendous amount of velcro and I don't think it would look very good, but might work.

Has anyone mounted a radar detector to a C10 with a rifle windshield?  I appreciate any advice and/or pics.  Thanks.

I mounted a ram ball mount to the dash, used a 3" arm and a flat mounting plate for the base the V1 is attached to.  Also mounted one of the V1 power oulets to the underside of the rifle. And a small bit of 3M Dual lock material for the V1 auto adapter.  -- On the V1 used a small amount of 3M dual lock material and a velcro strap for backup. Comes right off so that I can also use on the car or truck.  -- I have also modified my GPS power cord so it plugs into the V1 power outlet

Here is one from a ride, showing how far it sits up over the dash.

I can't tell by the pic, but is the mount attached to the dash with two sided tape or screwed down?

I made a spy-cam mount out of an L-bracket I got at a hardware store, something similar might work for lighter electronics.

I know at higher speeds my tall Rifle screen vibrates quite a bit, I don't know if I would trust a suction mount on it.

The Velcro on the tab and on the inside of the binder clip keep it real stable, and also keep the clip from marring the shelf.

I took some video with it at Big Bend, I am in the process of photo and video editing and will post the results of both soon, I promise. The camera picks up a bit of the vibration, and the video is a bit blue due to the tinted screen, but it still works pretty well. A better quality camera may be in my future...and maybe a way to mount it outside the screen...But for a radar detector, it should get it into the screen and be solid enough. You might even put a second clip on a different shaped mount that clips to the shelf and the screen edge.

I used 3M dual lock. One side is stuck the dash, the other side stuck to the bottom of the ram mount base. The original idea was to be able to remove the ram mount base and only have the 3M dual lock on the dash, and have it be low profile.  However I covered the entire 2.5" base. I dont recommned this. I recommend using less. This stuff is strong. Once I stuck the two halfs together, I cannot get them apart just pulling by hand. At least not very easily. The stuff just grips too dang tight. I dont want it too easy, but I also didnt want to tear the dash up yanking like hell on it. I suppose I could get something in there and pry one side up, then once its started separate the two. So far I have just been leaving it there. -- Its also been a while maybe I should try again and see.

I found a nice way to install this radar detector for $13.49 including shipping.  I got this Dash Mount from MountGuys from Amazon here http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001DSIMAI

Here are the pics of the install:

Installed the disc with the pre-installed 3M sticky tape.

Installed the supplied square velcro and added some strips of my own to the mount and bottom of the RD.  Please don't laugh at the velcro job.  I was having issues with the razor and the velcro......

Seems to hold really well....

This little mount worked perfectly.  It set the RD just above the instrument panel dash to clear the rifle windshield dash.  The mount has a suction that holds it to the plastic disc and is very strong.  The only thing I didn't realize until all was installed was that the lever to clamp down the suction was in the back.  It wouldn't clear the rifle dash.  I flexed the rifle dash a little and the lever cleared and worked fine.  The back of the RD sets in far enough in front of the windshield as to not rub and mark it down the road.

I may find that I need to add a velcro strap all the way around the mount and RD for a backup.  I will know the first ride I take and see how well it holds up.

Very Nice Jimiz! very nice!  8)

That there looks like a tech article to me, by not send to Slybones to knock up

I have a Valentine with the remote display, so I fit the head unit in the pocket.
