Associated Press Rides To Key West

I just stumbled across THIS in the Washington Post's Lifestyle section.  It's not the best such article I've seen, but it does give you a good take on current pricing.

Incidentally, if you're thinking of making a run to Key West, here are a couple of tips:

1) There is not one thing about being in Key West that is cheap.  It's like New York or Chicago that way.  Just plan for it, get over it, and have a good time.  That said, there are PLENTY of really wonderful places to stay all along the Keys which aren't nearly as usurious as the places in Key West itself - and they're all within a short, pleasant ride of the "big" city.

2) If crazed reveling with half-nekkid women in body paint is not your thing, please do not come down at the end of October for the annual Key West Fantasy Fest!  The big parade on Saturday October 28th should particularly be avoided...
;)

Stayed in the Keys for a long weekend last weekend. Four people sharing a camp site in the back 40 at the KOA at MM20 was $31/couple/night. Not your typical KOA experience, at least in the open sight area in the woods we were in. A good thing.

No Name Key Tavern is way cool. We must have seen at least 50 Key Deer on the way in and out to the tavern from US1. Also way cool.

Even though traffic can suck, and it did getting out on Sunday, the view from the bridges is just totally awesome. We try to get down annually for our latitude adjustment.

Considering the location, I didn't think eating/drinking out was all that unreasonable, though you can find expensive if you look around. KW lodging is flat out expensive, no getting around that. I've been told that in season, KW has the #1 most expensive average hotel rates in the country.

Key deer..or as my friend says.... Rotisserie deer!  :D
