Just got back from the nationals. ~1k miles total now on the used final drive. no gear oil coming out. so the fleabay used unit seems to be doing the job. I did have some of the black moly grease i use liberally on the splines come out and splatter on the wheel. but it wiped off and was done. Now to consider finding someone to rebuild the original final drive and keep it for a spare. the local Kawa dealer won't do unit rebuilds/repairs. expects us to buy new. frustrating. Hopefully I'll have a lot more miles before needing a rebuilt final drive.
