Connie Windshield noise too much

I am 5'11" and the noise and buffet is too much. Has anyone solved this? I notice Targa has a windshield for $69 and others offered from Cee Bailey and clearview. Any suggestions? Thanks in Advance.
 
I find that even with a better windshield (Cee Baily)and wearing ear plugs the noise can be annyoing and tiring on long trips. Although I still sit up and look over the windshield a bit. Crouching down I find I dont really get into quiet until I am completely down and under the shield. This would be great for riding in the sunny weather. When I try that in the rain, I cannot see a thing. If your thinking of going this way, look for a shield that says its ok with Rainx or something like that. -- I have tried polish and many of the tips provided in the forums, but I dont think they worked that great and not as good as rainx. If you were to search around you'll find lots of Rifle was the quietest, then the next guy will say Cee Baily was the quietest, etc. Seems to flop around here. A few will tell you none of them are completely quiet and that you need to use ear plugs, or high quality noise cancelling ear buds, with your MP3. I think from a buffeting point of view, the aftermarket shields do a pretty good job of improving air flow and reducing that. But as long as your helmet is out in the airflow, however smooth or rough it is, you are going to have wind noise. Helmets can also make a difference in noise factor. Some are more/less quiet than others. Aftermarket shields provide better weather protection, and can be nice in the cold rainly weather. Although can be a little warmer in the hot weather.
 
Tony,,Welcome to the forum !! There are many choices for windshields. I'm 5'9 and have the Rifle system on my bike with a home cut 13 inch shield on it. The Rifle has a built in vent at the bottom to let air in behind the shield to stop much of the buffeting. The hight I have right now is good in the rain and cold weather but it maybe could be shorter in the real hot weather. http://tinyurl.com/5ap6y7 Many like the CE Bailey also and they add a vent to it that you can adjust the air flow. They come in different heights and you can get a fixed vent in it. Many just cut off the flip part at the top and add a vent to equalize the air behind the shield. I cut my rifle down so I could see over it. Made it noisyer though. Too cut just use a power jig saw or sawzal with a fin tooth blade then file to shape with a metal file. finish up with emerycloth by hand Nobody will be able to tell from stock. 1990 Aint she a pretty Tomato wedshots albums http://community.webshots.com/user/sawfiler64/albums/most-recent

Tony: I have a Cee Baily 24" and it helps, but does not alleviate this irk entirely. I have a Tulsa extended windshield (yes, I have to look through it) on both Gold Wings and do not hear the continous "wind popping" or receive the helmet buffeting. The down side is: I don't receive the wind! The Co-rider really enjoys the taller than stock windscreens, but they are murder in the summer. Ride Safe and God Bless
 
I'm 6'1" 34" inseam. I bought a used Rifle sys. w/ 19" shield (24" total) and it was just too tall. So I have been expermenting with a piece of scrap lexan. After 3 cuts it is now 17 3/4" total. Today I redesgned the vent area of the shield. Will test it tomorrow. This is my warm weather shield. Anyway with the Rifle base it's easy to take lexan and make your own shield. You can work with until you get it where you want.
 
I do like the looks of the Cee and was thinking the 25 inch. Do you have the vent? I was wondering how much water is allowed through the vent?
 
I tried a Rifle and it did not work for me. I cut down a stocker to 14" which has my helmet in clean air but my body is still protected. The buffeting is gone, Windnoise at a reasonable level (Full face helmet), gas mileage up, no crosswind or truck turbulence is also and added benefit. I am 5'8" with a long torso. This has worked well in rain as well as being cooler in the heat. Everybody is different. I bought a peice of Lexan and kept cutting it until I found a height that worked for me and then I cut the stocker. Ride safe, Wayne
