Apparently Dave Jones "Davo" from Australia hit a deer this morning outside Sandpoint Idaho and was airlifted to a trauma center in Spokane with head injuries. He could ues all your prayers and the folks over on the Farriders Forum are going to be taking up donations to assist his wife in flying to the US and for expenses I imagine. Updates will be posted on the LDR List as well as the FJR Forum.

Clipped from the FJR Forum Davo Update: Allow me to update y'all on what we know (and don't know) regarding Davo's deerstrike. Lisa Landry received the initial phone call from local police at the scene of the crash. They informed Lisa that Davo was not wearing his helmet when he hit the deer. Lisa immediately challenged the officer, insisting that there is no way on earth this rider would NOT have his helmet on while operating the bike. They went back and forth several times until Lisa was convinced that the officer was not misinformed. The police said the helmet was still strapped to the back of the bike when they came upon the accident. Other riders who came upon the scene corroborated the story, saying they saw helmet on the back of the bike as well. If this is true, we are having a very difficult time understanding why Davo did not have his helmet on when the deerstrike occurred. We understand him to be a stalwart believer in ATGATT, and he is obviously well aware of the requirement to wear your helmet during the rally (even if riding in a "free" state like Idaho). Not having his helmet on while riding is COMPLETELY inconsistent with what we know about Davo. As of this moment, we do not have any amplifying information to provide you. We understand that Davo was transferred to Kootenay Medical Center by air ambulance and taken into surgery right away for his head injuries, but that is all we know at this time. We all should put our thoughts into Davo's speedy recovery and our thoughts go out to his wife, family and friends at this time. It is expected she will be flying over as soon as she can secure a Passport and a flight. Numerous folks in the area have volunteered to assist in any way.
I've followed Davo for some time and always was fascinated by his rides, when the rally started I was hoping to follow his spot but with the communication block I looked forward to the reports. I'm keeping him in my thoughts and prayers and hope he can hang in there for a full recovery. As I'm sure many of you know there is a lot of information on the MTF forum.

I just got off the phone with the hospital. As I am not a member of the immediate family the nurse station attendant would not give me any information other than he was in the ICU. I am very sorry to report that Davo has passed away this morning as a result of injuries sustained in a crash with a deer in Northern Idaho during the last day of the Iron Butt Rally. This is a tragic loss and I am truly sorry to have to bear and share the news. Oh no. A terrible loss. I was fortunate to meet Davo on a 2007 AU tour and he and family put me up for a night. He showed me around including the lovely nearby Noosa Head harbor area. He was just about to receive a GTR1400 on loan for a test and report before they were released to the public. He was so looking fwd to that event. Davo was an instant friend and one to remember forever.
