Florida Winter Rally January 15-17, 2010 I'm a dual-member in both COG and the BMWNEF group. BMWNEF (that's BMW owners of NE Florida) sponsors several events in the Jacksonville and St.Augustine region. This event is a fund-raiser for charities supporting active-duty military and veterans charities. This event is open to all motorcyclists and the turnout includes many Concours riders, as well as a mix of everything else from Aprilla to Zundapp. The Winter Rally is the only rally I know of in January and it is held at Camp Blanding, the FL National Guard base just east of Starke, FL. The weather is unpredictable which has earned this rally "The Coolest Rally." There is a lot of food, fellowship, riding and instruction. Usually Sue Galpin is there to talk about mountain riding. There is also usually a presentation on international touring, which is very informative and will give you the bug to volunteer for the OTP event. Registration is limited to 500 people and there are no day-of-event registration. This is at a US military facility and they need your info in advance, and photo id must be shown to enter the base. I won't be going but it sounds like a good time. I've been through the area many times while trying to stay off of I-95 coming back from Daytona Bike Week. You don't see Convair F-106 Delta Darts everyday but Camp Blanding has one.
 
Thanks Weather is not promising, though highs in the 60's on Friday and Saturday will help though there is some rain on Saturday morning. That's why they call this rally "the cold one." I'm sleeping in a cabin with my sweetie, so that will be good.
