Gear shift shaft has a leaky problem.

Seems my trusty Red Dawn (88 Concours) has developed a bad habit, it's starting to leave spots. It is coming from the gear shift shaft at the rear of the left side of the engine. So my question is, how big of a job is this to fix? If it is a major operation, it will be put off as I've got more than enough to work on right now. tcars John

Pretty easy John. Simply remove the gear linkage, and screw a couple of small self tapping screws into the seal and gently pull the seal out. Make sure the shaft has no burs on it, grease up the new seal and ease it over the shaft and into the recess, gently press it into place with a suitable socket or similar, make sure you keep it square to the shaft. Thanks Colin: I think I can handle that one. I was expecting it to take a lot more work. ta, tcars John

I've done the seal r/r too, jest like Colin described. But I'd make shure that's yer prob. The H20 pump & other nearby suspects can also leak erl towards the shaft. 01 Conc, Mijami Floriduh OTP 06: http://tinyurl.com/2vk9o2 route map: http://tinyurl.com/4p7pmd
