GPS unit

If you are creative, there are a few Nuvi units that fit into Ram clamshells and can be made 'water resistant' with an application of sealant and a screen saver film.

I run a Garmin 2595 in a Ram clamshell and it has served me well for over 30k miles so far. Paid 120 for the gps and about 50 for the clamshell and mount. The next link fits the 2595 in addition to the 560:

I went from an older expensive motorcycle specific unit to a NICE car unit that hooks to my phone and gives me live weather radar overlay and blue toof to my helmet.  I bought a GPS tank bag that keeps the unit out of the rain and direct sun and I have been very happy so far.  Still cheaper than the new motorcycle ones.

I use a garmin 255w which I got off fleabay for 50 bucks.  it's survived vibration and wet for a couple years now with no problems.  I figure at that price, I can buy a dozen for the price of a MC specific unit.  i use a cigarette lighter for power and use a suction ram mount on the windshield.  cheap and works great.  I'm in the process of mounting a ram ball to my dash so I can have a better mount than the suction cup.

I found a Garmin Street Pilot 2720 on Ebay for about $80, and a mounting bracket + cable for about $35 more. It's an older unit, but is waterproof. It has 2GB of memory (if i remember right). The maps can't be upgraded to the latest (they are too big to fit), but the only place it lets me down is on some of the interstate exchanges that have been re-done in the past few years. If you consider this, don't settle for the 2717; it has a micro-drive instead of flash memory, instead of flash, and is prone to failures.
It's a nice unit with lots of features. I made a bracket and mounted over the dashboard, just below my line of sight, and I'm pretty happy with it.
