Holy Death Valley Wildflowers Batman!

In the shadow of the Valley of Death

Wow, the season has started early!  Check these pics, taken just recently:

http://www.desertusa.com/wildflo/ca_dv.html

One of the best riding roads is still closed because of the flooding earlier, so I didn't try to organize an official rally this year, but I'm definitely going to post up some unofficial rides.

My Feb. 19-21 weekend is taken (see Phoenix M/C show threads), but if anyone wants to try to get out here to see some, lemme know what weekend you're going to be here.

FYI, Death Valley road conditions are usually updated on the parks Facebook page.

No shit!  Don't even get me started on a rant about prioritization of financial resources by our current federal administration.  There's no reason for that road to be closed at this point, given the other ******** on which money is spent.
:021: :character0029:

Saw some wildflowers around Furnace Creek this afternoon.

Gonna ride next weekend on Friday.

Probably also on Saturday the 27th if anyone wants in on it.

Riding in DV +1. Riding in DV with Cman? OMC endorsed! :beerchug: Wish I could go. :'(

Once every decade bloom shown on the local news tonight. Howza about a run the weekend after PHX C Man?

I'm starting a ride at 10am with some friends on Sat. 2/27, from my place.  You're welcome to jump in.  I'm going to make it up as we go.

Got your Vmail Cman. Lets talk tomorrow. The counterweight and I have been talking about it. May jump in.  :great:

Stay Tuned. Cman may be on to something here.  :great:

OK, anyone that wants in on this, we're meeting at 10:30AM on Saturday the 27th at the 76 gas station in the parking lot of the Gold Town Casino.  It's at the intersection of 160 and 372 in what passes for the center of town in Pahrump.

It's gonna be a slow, stop and smell the wildflowers kind of run, from Pahrump to Furnace Creek, then down Badwater Road to Ashford Mills ruins, where the wildflowers are blooming.  Back up Badwater Rd. and looping through Artist's Drive, then back to Pahrump.

This will be on the Calendar soon. Time permits we may romp and stomp up to Panamint springs/Stove Pipe wells for some twisty fun. The counterweight is planning to attend. If folks from away are planning to go and looking for accommodation recommendations let me know.

This is now on the calendar. Register now. Should be a hoot.

So the start of the ride, the Pahrump to Furnace Creek section, using

372 to Shoshone

or

Bell Vista Rd to 190/Death Valley Junction

I may be able to meet along the route somewhere, just don't know if I can be in Pahrump by 10:30

Ride starts at 10am in Pahrump.  Meet at 9:30 at the gas station.

Route will be Bell Vista to 190 to Furnace Creek.  We can stop at the Furnace Creek Ranch for a short break and a chance for anyone to catch up.  Maybe there from 11 to 11:30?  Early lunch maybe?

Then down Badwater Rd. to Ashford Mills ruins for the best wildflower viewing.  Hang there for photo ops a bit so that's another place to catch up.

After that is TBD.  Back up towards Furnace Creek for late lunch?  Then on 190 west as far as the Vegas crowd can stand it, then home?

If I can make it, I would probably come through the park to get to Pahrump. Riding slab through Barstow and Baker then up just doesn't seem appealing.

I checked my PR4 GT's today and I'm not sure I can get another 1K out of the rear tire. I'm like .5mm off the first wear bar, but the center doesn't seem terribly flat. I'm sure I could get there and enjoy the flowers - but getting home might be a problem.

I'm trying to work up the guts to say, "Ah, what the hell. I'll give it a try."

Well, that's an interesting twist and offer. Looking into it.

If needed could we do it Friday afternoon or Saturday after the flowers?

Fri afternoon/night is a doer. Prolly get back late on Sat but can be done. Or Sun Morn.  :great:

OK. I'm in.

I'll keep track of how the tire does on the trip east and take it from there. There are a couple of tires available near you if it becomes necessary.

Awesome and thanks!

Well, dang. I guess I'm out.

I got a very late start (stupid clients) so Im way behind and this tire is giving up far sooner than I expected.

I'm just going to baby it back home again.

Everyone enjoy the flowers and take pretty pictures for the Concourier.

See everyone tomorrow between 9:30 and 10.  Everyone at this point may just consist of Jeff, OMoaC, and me.

:motonoises:

Awesome ride today Old Man!  Definitely a once-in-a-decade bloom in DV.  I thought last year was great, but this year is better.  The valley was very gold.  Lots of purple as well!

Twas. Thanks for the set up CMan. Pics coming.

Thx Again Cman for throwing this together. Counterweight and I had a great ride. Full 7 sensory overload. Hills covered in yellows, Purples, Whites. Dropping down into the Valley was like stepping into a florists shop. Weather between 70 and 80. Light traffic (except Badwater) and great company. Here's some pics including the counterweight selfie from the back of the 14 Hunney at speed.

You have buddies?!?!?!
Hey, 1 hander Commander! You slummin'?  :great: :beerchug: ;)

Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Ironically, Al actually took my avatar pic on the ride to which you were referring.

You can't tell, but in the picture, my CC is engaged and I'm flipping you off.

Not you personally. I would never do that.

The metaphorical "you". :beerchug:
