Interesting video from Mecum auction, phony or not?

Hard to believe that would even happen at Mecum .
Looks like Mecum respected the fact enough questions were raised and got on it quickly: same day resolution, no money changed hands, no litigation, and the current owner more educated on what they likely really have.

My suspicion is this happens more than we know, and if not for the industry experts on site this too would have gone unnoticed.

Hats off to Mecum for standing tall on side of the buyer (and their reputation).

Interesting, and good to hear Mecum stepped in. Unfortunetely, this happens a lot, everywhere. With baby boomers with huge amounts of disposable income wanting the things they could not afford in their youths and unable to restore these things themselves and others wanting to invest, a very willing sector is more than able to create these things. The internet makes it so easy to get parts and research where the money is at to be fleeced. I'm not just referring to old bikes, this is EVERYWHERE, from guns to coins to purses and clothing. The counterfeiters are getting VERY, VERY good at what they do.

The take away? Caveat Emptor, "buyer beware", know what you are getting and what to look for. Having the resources of a place like Mecums helps, but you pay more in the long run with artificially high prices, but, you have recourse.
