Joe Rocket Survivor Suit

Anyone purchased or thinking of purchasing Joe Rocket's new survivor suit? I've been looking for a new suit and have a hard time shelling out the $800 for a stitch. I realize it's probably the best out there. Just curious if anyone has any experience with the new Joe Rocket suit?

sorry - forget to include the link. http://www.joerocket.com/catalog/index.cfm/235/414/Suits/Survivor_Suit

Hmmm. Yet another manufacturer COPIES a 'stitch and (likely) makes it in China. Admittedly a 'stitch is expensive but if you take reasonable care of it (e.g. don't crash in it and wash it occasionally) it will last virtually forever. I've had mine for almost 15 years now and it still does exactly what it's supposed to. JR makes some good products. This probably is a decent suit but, IMO, you won't find any company that has as good a customer service as Aerostitch.

I understand that a stich is an expensive investment but I cant imagine another company producing anything close to the level of it. IMO you cant beat a stich for both quality and customer service. I say spend the money, you'll be glad you did. Spark, Just checked into this for your. They have it at new enough... (http://www.newenough.com/street/protective_apparel/textile_one_piece_suits/joe_rocket/survivor_one_piece_textile_motorcycle_suit.html) for $375 I'd wait for a review. Similar ones (by other brands) tend to have waterproofing issues with this type of suit. Colin

For less than half the price of a 'stich....I expect it to be less than half of everything else the 'stich is: ....quality...comfort...durability...customer service...and resale when you finally outgrow it or want a change. Watch eBay for resale prices on 'stich...and look at them for 'comparitive' items. Quality sells several times. One single trip to the emergency room could be the difference in the price of a roadcrafter suit and a wannabe suit. Hey I also own several Joe Rocket products and think they are superior products, however. the long and short of it is what is going to work for you? Therefore anyting is better than nothing and as always..... You ride, you take your chances. Bell use to have a great ad. I paraphrase: "If you have a ten dollars head, then buy a ten dollar helmet." When I was teaching MSF classes I would tell the class that you could spend about $1000 to buy good gear that would cover you head to toe. That same $1000 could only buy you about one square inch of a skin graft. The choice is yours. Of course this was a few years ago, so the prices for both have probably gone up. The concept is still valid.

So are you saying that unless we spend $1000 on a 'stitch were all screwed? I dont think the question is spending $800 on a 'stitch versus not spending it on gear at all ( which is how I interpret the ole saying ). Its spending $800 on a 'stitch versus spending $400 or $500 on something else. From that point of view and the skin graft part of the equasion, does a 'stitch really provide that much better protection? Is that what you pay the extra $400 bucks for. -- Of course that will depend on the gear you are comparing and how they match up. I think there is other gear that can match a 'stitch in protection. Then we have the quality of the product part of the equasion, does the 'stitch really provide that much better longgevity and customer service, etc. Is this what you pay the extra $400 bucks for. -- Conventional wisdom says yes. Not that other companies are bad. There are some really good ones. Just seems that Aerostitch is the benchmark. Buy whatever you like. If you noticed, I didn't endorse any brand. Also notice, I said "head to toe". That includes boots and helmet. That $1000 couldn't get you into a Stich + boots + helmet even back then. I have never owned a Stich. Would I like to? You bet! I'd like to win the lottery too. We both know that ain't gonna happen. :)

The OP asked if anyone had any experience with the Joe Rocket suit. It would seem that the answer is "NO." FWIW, I've got an Aerostitch Roadcrafter and Darien Light with the Darien Light pants (the money I make as a MSF RiderCoach goes to gear and/or farkles). As I said in my original post, the Joe Rocket suit is probably a decent suit and it's for sure better than jeans and a leather vest. Given it's longevity, the 'stitch has become the standard against which all the textile suits tend to be judged mostly because it was first and is an excellent performer.

Thanks everyone! I'm looking for a stich off ebay but probably end up driving to Duluth within a week or two.
