Today I went for a ride with my buddy and at one of our stops he commented that I had something wrong with my right rear turn signal...It was 1/2 full of water! I thought it looked like a little yellow fishbowl. When I got home and looked inside there was a great layer of gray mud from the Wellsboro trip inside the housing and the bulb socket was 1/2 full of Dihydrogen Monoxide. Time to plug up that tube that holds the turn signal to the rear fender with a gob of RTV Silicone!!! I drilled small drain holes in the housing hoping to alleviate the problem in the future.
 
As I haven't taken those things apart, I wouldn't be able to comment much... except to say - WHAT??? Those turn signal stalks are hollow tubes... unplugged... and water and junk can travel from the rear fender through the stalk and into the bulb housing??? Is that right?? Wow, bad design. IMHO.
 
A conspiracy I say! ;) If the gasket between the housing and the lens is doing its job then you'll have no issues. And in a perfect world this is the case. However I live in Oregon adn I too have experienced this firsthand. Therefore I've drilled 3/16" holes in the bottom of my rear turn signal housings that act as drains. No issues since doing this. Like Greg M, said. A plug of bathroon caulk or suitable sub is the cure. Shoot it in from the fender end.

Oh Thanks Bob!! My confidence in Kaw. is restored...there's supposed to be a gasket between the housing and the lens. Wow, that was a close one. It sounds like they still didn't design it very well though, if leaks are this common. Easy fixes though, a dab of calking, and or, drill a couple very small holes.
