Mirros - stability

I adjusted my mirrors other day so that I could see more to the side = decrease my rear/quarter blind spot. But then I went for routine Sunday ride and at speed bike didnt feel right, front end felt loose, less stable tracking, etc. Thought it might be cross-winds but no trees were waving at me. I finally decided it must be the new mirror position. So on way home that would be 100% highway, when I stopped for gas moved mirros back to original position. Voila, back to the stable, tight tracking bike that I love.

Anyone have this problem and any suggestions on optimal mirror postion to ensure good view and ride. Thanks

I really don't understand: the mirrors are relatively small and I think they shouldn't affect stability in any position. In the past, I've adjusted the mirrors in various positions without noticing any ill effect. Now, I keep each one adjusted so I can barely see the following vehicule at rear so as to have maximum visibility on both sides.

Could it be variations in wind intensity? Or road condition?

Only felt it on straight and relatively level roads. I think it could also be that the front tabs on the upper fairing were broken off by the PO. That could have caused the instability I felt.  I am planning on fixing them this winter.

Only a guess but I would bet it has more to do with changing road conditions from it being later in the day, wind differences or less traffic.  I would be glad to think different with more testing.
