Naked Connie

EyeOnTheSky

Tricycle
I read somewhere about a guy who removed his Connie's fairing to make it a "naked" Connie. Since the lower fairing on my Connie is pretty scratched up and a new one costs $181, I'm considering leaving off the left and right lower cowling. Has anyone else read about this?

Hey Eye, There are lots of Connies out running around sans lower plastic. I personally ran the Turbo bike withou lower plastic until I was able to condense the package to fit inside the confines of the fairing. One tip that makes it look cleaner is to move the overflow tank to under the seat and also to make some molding or metal strip to screw on at the base of the upper fairing to prevent the :something's missing" look. Good luck with your own nekkid project. There are lots of others who have done similar and more to learn from.

My son is running a "Naked" connie. He put an upper fairing of a old ninja with some small mods on it. Also a Vance and Hines 4-1 exhaust. Webshots.com has many pics from several coggers of these mods. Ours are filed under sawfiler64. 1990 Aint she a pretty Tomato

Take a look at these naked Connies. I haven't built one but I am a fan. I'm sure Rich Riczinger will be by to tell you about his COGZILLA. It's one of the nicest ones. In the meantime........... There's the Traditional UJM with a fork mounted shield and some extra leather and chrome trim. http://www.pbase.com/image/4416881 The BMW style Touring Roadster complete with bags. http://www.pbase.com/image/4416972 A bikini fairing equiped Budget Cafe Racer. http://www.pbase.com/image/5473887 Let's not forget Silky's Special http://www.pbase.com/elvin315/image/53384182 Or Norm Soucy's Screaming Yellow Zonker. http://www.pbase.com/elvin315/image/66662099 Here's the Semi Naked Hooligan Conc. http://www.pbase.com/image/23315184 http://www.pbase.com/image/23315185 http://www.pbase.com/image/23315186 BMW Style http://www.pbase.com/image/28780057 http://www.pbase.com/image/29261923 http://www.pbase.com/image/29261921 GTR Trike (the fairing mods can be applied to a 2 wheeled version) http://www.pbase.com/image/21004696 http://www.pbase.com/image/21004697 http://www.pbase.com/image/21004699 Naked Kawapotomus (unfinished but almost there) http://www.pbase.com/image/17661807 Mad Max (roadside repairs) http://www.pbase.com/image/7159404 Another Semi Naked Standard. http://www.pbase.com/elvin315/image/45620092 Cogzilla with Chameleon Paint and a Bikini Fairing with Twin Beams. http://www.pbase.com/image/53384162 ZG1000R Now this last one came as a bolt from the blue. Not a naked bike but a rebody. Monsieur Pierre Poulin of Boucherville, Quebec, Canada has grafted the Ninja fork onto a Concours along with the front bodywork and mufflers. The rest seems to be all Concours. At first glance the bike looks like a Ninja 1000R though along side a genuine Ninja you can tell it was originally a Concours. If it was a Ninja its perimeter frame would be visible in the gap between the lower fairing panels and the side panels. The front wheel and forward bodywork are Ninja, but the handlebars, gas tank, side panels, seat, and tailpiece are definitely Concours. The old Ninja fork is junk and the wheel is 16 inches but both can be replaced with better. It screams for a ZRX frontend upgrade. The tighter fitting fairing and sport windshield blends perfectly with the Concours tank and plastic. The bike certainly looks like a Ninja. Whether he added the Ninja carbs and cams can't be determined from the picture but wouldn't that be the icing on this cake. http://www.pbase.com/elvin315/image/63167093

Great post, Elvin. It sure gave me some ideas should I decide to make my Connie naked in the future. For now, I decided to bite the bullet. I have a new upper cowling, left lower cowling and left turn signal assembly on order with Carolina Cycle Center, to the tune of $730.
