New to me Connie owner in FL

budshowboat

Big Wheel
I just bought a red 2000 a few weeks ago on consignment in Clearwater.  She's only got 17,000 miles and very clean with some nice mods....Russell Daylong seat, handlebar risers, Rifle windshield and so on.  The previous owner must have been a member of COG due to the COG sticker on the rear fender and COG keyring.  Maybe someone on here will recognize the bike.  I'd luv to know more about it.  I usually ride my 08 KLR650 to Tampa everyday for work but felt I needed something a little more substantial, especially when the wife wants to go for a ride.  So when I saw "Red Hot Connie"  I knew I had to take her home! :D  After a few short trips to get used to her, I noticed the gas mileage was between 25-30 mpg. :(  Should be around 40, right?  So now she sits getting a carb rebuild at my buddies shop, plus the full array of pm stuff.  Wednesday can't come soon enough.

Welcome to the COG forum...  Why not join the club and get to know some area members? Might be a good way to learn more about the PO and the bike.

I'm now a member.....:)

Well then I guess congratulations are in order. And I would like to be the first to welcome you as the newest member of Concours Owners Group!  8)

Welcome aboard Bob.. Look up Steve in Sunny Florida for great technical advice (he is the forums carb specialist.. among other things) You will soon make great friends here.

Congrats on your membership. It will soon prove out to be a great investment. The group is very supportive here. They have many rides and gatherings in the list. Hopefully they will come up with background on your Red Hot!! Great start on your "farkling" I hear wonderful things about your daylong seat and the risers are certainly an asset. I just added risers to mine with a shield to be my next upgrade. She is a great ride and with help here an easy keeper service wise. Your milage should be better. The best milage is under 4000rpm in my experience but I seem to increasingly have a problem keeping it in that range ;D

Enjoy the rides and I hope for the best for you this season..

Great one more Bob.  Soon we can take over the world Hahahaha.  We have about five Bobs in place now as COG officers.  Welcome and consider taking on an active roll in COG leadership.  I am sure we can make board meetings even more confusing :)

Bob - welcome! you need to keep an eye out for our activities, we have several RTE's (ride to eat)coming up, good time to get to know more Coggers in your area. I'm in wesley chapel, and we have a pretty active and friendly group going on in this part of Florida. Steve

Yeah we have our own events up here lately. We call it shovel the snow out of the driveway to eat!  :))  I'm jealous of y'all who get to ride year round without dealing with salt, sand, snow and ice!

Yeah BBAR..We have so much time to ride, we ride all the time and tend to do it independently  We stop riding any time it gets below 50 degrees.. I'm jelous of your area staying so tight for the months you have good weather and driving cages if you must to a RTE a hundred miles away when the nasties set in!!!
I think we are too spoiled with the blessing of great weather and too independent some times! Thus is the nature of Humanity!! LOL

I think I'll pass on riding "down South" in mid to late summer.  I "Par Broil" in my gear and WONT RIDE WITHOUT IT.

Yeah, you could probably guess I bought ConRad in October! it was down to the 70's by then.  :p
They make "light" safety gear and heat shielding.... right?!!?!!!

I ride in leather MOST of the year, and reduce to lighter than that for the hottest part of summer.  People ask me all the time if I'm hot.  I guess I don't really notice.  HOT riding is better than NOT riding.

Hey Bob, welcome.

We have an RTE coming up on 22 Jan, come on up and meet some folks. You can either go straight to Gator Joe's, or stop at my house first. We'll have coffee and "pre bench racing" at the house, then head up through the back country, on some roads that have real curves and a hill or three. It'll be a good opportunity to see what other folks have done in the way of farkling.

Also, if you've done a little reading up, you should realize that you do not want a hydrolock(hydraulic lock). Get with SiSF about overflow tubes. These are engine savers, literally. He is also THE goto guy for carb work, airbox/carb mods, cams...  And if you don't have 'em, get some 2fast heat shields. I have a set at the house you can look at. They help a bunch with the heat of summer. Between the heat shields and a couple other mods, the Connie can actually be made almost bearable to ride in the summer. KLR is better for that, though.

I am planning on the RTE at Gator Joe's.  Looking forward to meeting some other members and learning more about the new bike!
