Olive Drab Paint Scheme

I am going to have this Connie for a while, and the paint job is a little faded from nearly two decades of being kept outside by the previous owners. One of my friend's joked that since I like the Royal Enfield mility bike, I should paint my Connie in cammo. I then sat back and gave it some thought, and maybe, just maybe, a Concours would look good decked out in olive drab. The Concours has an awful lot of plastic surface to paint, so I would have to find an olive drag from someone like Krylon that works on plastic to even consider this idea further. What do you guys think? An Army-themed Concours? Big white stars on either side of the gas tank and a Betty Page pin-up painted on the front fairing? : 46k miles

It would look cool. A good urethane paint should be ok on abs plastic. That's what gets put on the plastics at the factory. Something like what this place offers as stock touch up paint. http://www.colorrite.com/

Ego, That does look cool. Was it done in a shop or rattle cans? COG # 8062 AMA # 1084053 ROMA or Scarlet harlot acording to my wife

Rustoleum rattle can from Home Depot. I hit it with a 'gloss' clear coat as it was WAY too flat otherwise. I gives it a slight satin sheen. I like it and have actually received many compliments on it. I still want to do some bight colored 'tail' markings to finish it off. Only thing so far that I do not like about the rattle can is it does not harden like professional paint does. I used a tank bag once and it has left its mark. But I can sand and repaint the tank myself without worry. So there is a trade off.

I'd much rather be seen by the BDCs than blend into the background. No need to help out the old tired "Butt occifer, I didn't see him!" bit. 01 Conc, Mijami Floriduh OTP 06: http://tinyurl.com/2vk9o2 route map: http://tinyurl.com/4p7pmd

Actually, Ive been told it stands out on the highway. I also have plenty of strategically place black reflective that glows white with lights on it. But I have since converted to the dual headlight from Murph, and I think that gets me noticed BIG time.

No, I did not use a primer first. The bike was previously professionally painted black with a clearcoat. I just sanded it and sprayed the green first, then the black. I'm now thinking of having it duplicated professionally with a spray gun and a clearcoat. I'm finding the rattle can stuff really doesn't 'harden' properly.

a friend of mine painted his tank with rattle cans. i think he used duplicolor products. it looked really good but like you said, it never seemed to fully cure. he used lacquer paint and lacquer clear. i haven't tried it yet but i think if you go with an enamel clear coat it would work much better. i have an old suzuki with a leaky tank, one of these days i'm gonna get around to sealing the tank and paint it. i'm going to try the enamel clear, i think sherwin williams makes an urethane enamel clear that would have to be applied with a spray gun. i believe that would be the best clear you could put on for durability.

I'm not paint expert by any means. But from what I have read, lacquer never really hardens anyway. For true durability, urethane is the way to go.

Having seen Thomas' bike at the '09 National, I can tell you that is IS really cool looking! AS for Clorite, I was not impressed with their paint for my '05. It wasn't close as far as I'm concerned. And it's quite pricey! Just my $0.02. Eddie Sanford, FL 2005 Concours 1969 Triumph Bonneville AMA# 686667 COG# 7073 CDA# 0136 http://picasaweb.google.com/Eddie753
