Rear wheel oil leak

I have oil leaking from somewhere near the final drive area. I noticed oil splattered on my tire on the driveshaft side and then one day saw a drip of oil come from underneath the drive assembly casing. The strange (or maybe not so strange) thing is the drive assembly was replaced about a year and a half ago. Any ideas how to fix it without a teardown of the driveshaft assembly...I hope? Thanks.

I had that same issue. The final drive seal went bad and just needed to be replaced. Its a temperamental seal, if not installed exactly correct, it can be torn.

FWIW, this is what I did If you're really hard up, I could sell you my spare final drive.

I just purchased my 97 this summer and changed all fluids not knowing what the PO had done. Filled the final drive all the way up per the manual on CS in addition to spinning the wheel. I am going to drain some out today. Thanks for the tip. I am planning on joining soon. Have gotten too much good info for free already starting to feel real guilty LOL.

I drained some oil out when I put the bike on the sidestand, unfortunately it still leaks after I took it for a spin. Looks like I'm gonna hafta take the final drive off and replace the seals. The drive was replaced last year before I bought the bike, and it never leaked until last month, I guess the gasket might be torn or twisted.
