running lights

I have a 2003 Connie, are the rear turn signals also to be running lights? A friend with a 2002 Connie was behind me the other day & he said my running lights were not on but the turn signals work ok. His lights were on as running lights. I bought this bike used, since he told me this I have been checking other bikes & almost none have rear running lights on the rear but do on the front, my front turn signals also function as running lights. What's the word on this?

Nope, only 2 wires running to them, one ground, one hot. They only time you'll see light from them is when the turn signal is on. There are some folks that have taken old ninja front turn signals and stuck them on the back (3 wire), folks that have added the guts only (3 wire) and those that have added the "electrical connection" branded add-ons that put a ring of RED LED's around the turn signal bulbs that come on with the brake lights. The red LED's allow the amber lenses to glow red, making them legal. IIRC, if they were on constantly, they'd have to be red (no amber running lights allowed). Hope that helped. http://www.millerized.com I'll be in the garage

This being said I pulled the two wire "winker" assemblies out and replaced them with three wire #1157 bulb "winkker" assemblies. Yes they are amber but they do allow more conspicuity and on the three bikes that I have done this to I have never ever encountered any issues with law enforcement. Thanks, yes it does ease my peace of mind, this friend who told me the lights were not on has added several accessory lights to his bike & he may have used the 3 wire setup on his, he just failed to mention this little fact.
