A target date of September 1st has been selected to upgrade the current Cogmos Member-only Forum to allow guest accounts and public-facing areas. Guests will be able to view and post to all areas except those restricted to COG members. Those without an account can view all posts except areas restricted to COG members. This will enable COG to have a fully-integrated system and provide complete service to members and non members alike. The intention is to provide more up-to-date information to the general public, while providing better services to members such that they feel they get good value for their membership fee. This effort expands upon the theme elsewhere on cog-online to offer both an area for the public to "check us out" and added benefits for COG members. After spending some time on the forum we hope that guests will join as new members after seeing and feeling the great commoradarie we have in COG. We will also be

Yes they will be able to view the forum Profile However they will NOT be able to view the Full Member Profile in the Member Area of Cogmos this is for fully paid up COG Members only. Regards Colin Prior Cogmos Committee Chairman Lake Forest Park WA COG#7767

Brett, via the Preferences you can use the "Make Email Address viewable to others" option to turn the email visibility off. Greg H from Mass, Connie Droppers Anonymous Awards Dude COG# 7010,a Tracey CDA 120 99 Connie "Herrin Christabelle", 05 Ninja 250

That's disconcerting considering how much personal information I have in my forum profile that I'd like to be able to comfortably share with fellow members. I want them to be able to contact me, but I don't want that to be available to the general public. Here's an example of what I'm talking about. <img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3087/2808918259_86813a2f2f.jpg">

Brett, I guess the best thing would be to edit the profile and only show the more personal info to people you want to_One thing to remember is that most of the info is in the membership guide thats mailed to all new members once a year unless you opt out of the listing. With just someones name and state you can get a lot of info from 411.com. CT AAD COG #7011-A 2003 Concours-Mary Ann 1995 Honda Nighthawk 750 wifes

I'll edit my forum profile to take out sensitive info prior to the public roll out, but it would be nice if we could limit guest permissions to only see select fields in the forum profile in the future. I would suggest sending a broadcast message to all forum users telling them about the public areas being opened and that their forum profile (but not member profile) info will be visible. There are doubtless many members that don't visit the forum more than weekly.

So, what's the plan?? Monday morning, we log into that other forum and each of us open up a new topic/discussion about the new Open forum at cog-online!! :eg: Or am I just being a Richard?? ;) Dave Muir 1980 LTD1000 - Rocket 1999 Concours - Rocket II 1997 Dyna - wife's CT-COG #3649 Merchandise Czar

I would love to do that but it would mean that I would have to actually go there!!! Not gonna happen, I went cold turkey several months ago!! I'm glad we're doing this though, kudos to all who are making this happen. Roger ('07 Wee Strom) COG 5903 Virginia Beach, VA

I haven't been there in a while, but I'll post about it to make others aware. It'll be interesting to see if those posts are deleted.

Thank You, To all involved. THIS will help alot and be a PLUS for our fine group. Lee Altman aka "Yuma" Summer in Yuma is not hell, but hell is a local call :) 2006 Connie http://community.webshots.com/user/Lateck?vhost=community

Hey Mutt!! Good to see you here! Dave Muir 1980 LTD1000 - Rocket 1999 Concours - Rocket II 1997 Dyna - wife's CT-COG #3649 Merchandise Czar

Brett There are 2 different AND separate Profiles on Cogmos: 1) The Forum Profile, this is viewable to ALL forum members 2) The Membership Profile, this is viewable if you choose to COG Members only! With this profile you can select which fields are displayed to your fellow Cogers. If you go to my membership profile you will see I elect to display most if not all my info to Members as I do in the hard-copy membership directory. I believe this is the best way for COG to manage our membership information. Colin Colin Prior Cogmos Committee Chairman Lake Forest Park WA COG#7767

The Public Forum is now LIVE. As is the NEW streamlined registration process. New, Guest and Current Members can now register online without delay as Membership no longer needs to be "approved" Current COG Members register initially as a "Guest" and are then upgraded to FULL Membership by our Membership Director. Looking real good! If you don't log in you can see what information on the site is available to the public (those without a login). Looking forward to chatting with prospective members (guests). And now for the kinder, gentler mutt. Roger you had the right idea, I think I'll follow suit.
It's all hugs and kisses here!! Roger ('07 Wee Strom) COG 5903 Virginia Beach, VA

I don't suggest that's the best tack. I would rather take the higher ground and not look to be soliciting for subscribers. Of course if we see any subscriber that has a question that is answered on a COG Forum thread, it would only be polite to post a link to the thread to help a chap out right! :) The knowledge that COG now has an open forum will be public knowledge soon enough. Clearly there is no harm in mentioning the COG forum on any forum that we may be subscribed to, as long as it does not look like a "targeted marketing campaign" Colin Prior Cogmos Committee Chairman Lake Forest Park WA COG#7767

I don't think we should be proselytizing or anything but there's no harm in telling others that the Concours Owner's Group has a website with newly public forums and, if in doing so you also have to mention that, ummm, "this one you're on now... isn't it.", I don't see any harm in that. The missions of both sites are the dissemination of information about our beloved Connies and motorcycling in general aren't they? It's not a competition at all. But, if you happen to be looking for a full fledged motorcycling club, then that's found at cog-online.org and not at the other place. People looking for such a club need to know where to find it. I think most people can handle looking at more than one Internet forum, it's not uncommon for people to visit half a dozen different ones every day.

Hey! It's great to see this Forum go public. I hope that this will help increase the number of folks that will visit. :) Bill and I just helped a friend sell a '97 Connie to a really nice fellow this weekend. He's been riding a Drifter and seemed elated with the new (to him) Concours. I'll be sure to direct him here!

Davo - the COG membership director has the ability to correct this. Send an email to membership@cog-online.org and explain what you need. If that gets you nowhere, ping me directly and we will see what other options we have. -- Steve Smith, #3184 COG Northeast Area Director (somewhere in south central CT) If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space.

Were you around when the other forum went live in 2001? Although a number of people signed up early on, it was very inactive for a a while - IIRC maybe a few years. Remember...if you build it, they will come. -- Steve Smith, #3184 COG Northeast Area Director (somewhere in south central CT) If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space.
