Valve adjustment warning signs?

Hi -- I got my conc with 14K on it, and now i have 22K miles. The maintenance history didn't come with the bike, so i am unsure when, if ever, the last valve adjustment was. So, what are the indications and warning signs of a Connie needing a valve adjustment? It seems to be running great, MPG is right up at 42-44, everything sounds and feels good. Thanks in advance!

Given no maintenance history, I'd suggest that you do a valve adjustment and carb sync. It won't hurt anything and will give you a "starting point" for future reference.

Tappy valves are happy valves? I did not know that. I'm a new Concours owner, an 87 with 53k miles. The engine does have that tappy sound. I have no maintenance history on the bike so adjusting the valves is on my schedule. Knowing how it should sound with properly adjusted valves would be some assurance that I did it right.
