Can I wait until I can get a 10 day weather forecast before I sign up/commit?  ;D

Perfect time of year!  I plan on making a run to Crater Lake on Saturday if I don't get there before then.
Randy

I'm really starting to re-think my plans for that week end. I've reserved a room in Morro Bay for the 30th annual CBX Rally, rather expensive to stay there. If I do the Yreka rally it will : A. be cheaper (a lot!), B. include more riding, C. be with people who actually ride their bikes, and D. be much closer to home.
Don't get me wrong, the CBX guys (and gals) are great people too, but due to the collectible nature of the bikes there tends to be more talking about, than riding. And I do love to ride ;D  :motonoises:

I'll be there, too.

As of today, mid-July, there are 27 attendies on the list,
seeming pretty evenly split between NW and SW regions.

As of 8/12 no more single rooms at Super8 available.  I have a double reserved 9/10 to 9/13,  does anyone want to share a room with an old codger?  This only my 2nd time useing the forum, so the best way to reach me is through e-mail:  irishcowboy@peoplepc.com

Nothing worse than hundreds of bicyclists sharing the road.

I had planned on doing that area Saturday but luckily there is plenty of other options. ;D

If you make the call, I'll share the room with you.  I don't have a reservation yet.

i will be booking a room for myself and Charlie at the Comfort Inn tonight after council for the 11th and 12th.

Since the boss said I have some vacation time left, I booked the room before council tonight. Not much left.

I'm gonna have to cancel, so there should be another room with a king bed available at the super 8 today

ATTN ALL!!!

There are still rooms available at the Super8!

Bob Young,Coordinator Extraordinaire, was just in touch with Ofelia, Manager at Super8, and there are still rooms available.  Do not call the national 1-800# as they may show the motel full. Call Ofelia directly at 530-842-5781 and make sure to let her know that you are with the Concours Owners Group when making the reservation!!!

Also, the RV Park has agreed to add 1 more space to the reservation.  So, far only one camper has reserved.  Don't let him go "Lone Wolf"!

Please let us know if you have any questions or need an assistance.

Mike

Well, I'm registered and reserved.

Oddly enough, I'm a SouthWester that will be riding down from the north west to get to the event. I'll spend my final three days of a trip through the northwest with the COG. Seems like an awesome plan.

Hey Jet Fixer........I'm going to attend.  But will be trailering from Tucson to Las Vegas on Tue 9/8, spending 9/9 there with my sons family, and heading out for Graegle CA on Thursday 9/10, then on to Yreka on Friday 9/10.  You can PM me, or  email me at godzillat6@gmail.com

I'll be doing the same (from Hendo NV Thurs Morn) but still planning a IBA SS1k on the way up. Tom wussed and I may too but we'll see. You two keep me posted on your plans. Brazie has room.  :)

OM.  I PM'd Thomlinson with details but I'm taking the coast.  Phoenix to Atascadero to visit an old collage buddy and his family then north along the coast.
I have just tonight become a maybe as well.  Sitter may have to back out.  Always something.

Life interventions and a son leaving for college about that time, means I won't be attending.

I do have a Fri/Sat reservation at the Super 8 that I'll let go in a few days.
If someone wants to secure it from me first, then PM me before Tuesday night.
With a phone number for coordination purposes.

Currently, the forecast is looking good for slab'n down I5 for the festivities in Yreka.  :whoo:

Room Available

Hey Folks,

I have a gentleman who will not be able to make the trip to Yreka.  He has a No Smoking, King Room at the Super8 for the  11th, 12th and 13th.  If you are interested please indicate so within this thread and PM me directly.  He would facilitate a coordinated cancellation to make sure you would get the room.  So, no need to take all 3 nights if not wanted.

Thanks,
Mike

Friday it is supposed to be 108 in Redding, CA which is on the way to Yreka.
I'm getting a lot of pressure from the misses not to go.
If I can't make it, does someone want my room?

Btw the weather people up here suck. Wrong quite often. Ill be headin up the 5 friday.  Whens everyone  planning on arriving?

I'm getting a lot of pressure from the misses not to go.

But if you pass through Redding before noon it will probably be around/under 100. No sweat (well, probably a lot of sweat really).

And Yreka is only about 100 tops.

;D

Noon?
I won't be in Redding until around 5pm.
I never take I-5.
My plan was to take 101 up to 36.

ooooh. 36, I like 36.

36 to 3 and up - or - 36 to 5 and up

I envy your route - I'll be coming up the east side of the valley, at slope of the Sierras (hwy 49, 70 and such) some nice nice riding, cooler than 5 but still hot.

I would only take the 5 if making fast time was the only important thing - long, boring and hot.

Redding, I won't be their by Noon either - I was just being a bit , ahh, sarcastic  (that's not really the right word, but..) about the heat

And Arizona riders be sayin' "Hey, it's in the low hundreds. Nice break from the heat of home."

Can't you take Friday off MP? It's only a couple hour ride from you isn't it?

Me and Gumby are planning to hit the road at o'dark thirty so we can be at the Y drinking beer before it gets too hot...  ???

Hey Dan,

Thanks for posting these!  I'm planning to do the 325 mile loop on Saturday.  That Scott Bar road looks pretty interesting though.  Worth riding before leaving on Sunday morning??  Or maybe a small edit to the big loop to include Scott Bar?  http://tinyurl.com/nbz7vcb

What say you...or anyone else that's ridden it?

  Mike,

Ride Maps

Once again 'Our Man Bob' of Yreka came thru with the ride descriptions that I used to make the maps.
So I don't have much experience riding the area myself.
Thanks Bob!

I've done 95-100 for a few hours before, but 108 is serious business.

I'm told a small bag of ice purchased at a store and deposited in the front of your jacket works wonders for that.

I have cooling vests, and I plan to bring along a long sleeve shirt if I go.
Wet it with nice warm water, and you're good for 30-60 minutes in 100 degree heat.

I actually get that question quite a bit. I assure you do not need to soak these in cold water. You do not need to wrap yourself in icy water. Warm water, or comfortable water is ideal. The water is going to evaporate and cool you no matter what temp you start with.

EDIT: Forgot to mention this setup requires the use of a mesh jacket. Won't work well with anything but.

Hello friends, it pains me to say that a combination of pressure from the Fiance, temps nearing 110 degrees on the way up, and just plain old bad timing with a three week vacation which we leave for exactly one month to the day of Friday, I must cancel my trip to Yreka. Jay and Gumby I am so sorry I will not get to see you guys again. I am just taking too much time off this year to swing it. The heat too was a huge factor. After riding all day, the last two hours of my ride would have been in 100 degree heat. Not pleasant.

I am also sorry to the NW and SW AD and everyone else who helped. I know I am outspoken about not having enough events, then I can't even make to them.

Next one guys.
One King room is now available.

Yeah, I'm with Brent on this one. I just can't see droning up I-5 in 100+ heat for 6 hours, or 101 to 36 for 10+ hours in 90+ heat. I'm loading up my toyhauler and quad to go down to Pismo/Oceano Dunes for a few days of camping on the coast. With only 200 to 300 rigs on the beach, the dunes will be practically empty.

Have fun.

Thanks for reminder on the cooling vest and hydra backpack, now stored on bike.
I am the camper on this rally, maybe others?
Heading south tomorrow afternoon for the OR coast and will camp en route. Likely be in Yreka Fri afternoon.

Hmmm... Given the temps Saturday are looking to be north of triple digits we might also consider maybe doing a shorter Saturday ride and focus more on the night time activities eh?  ??? ;) :) :06:

Not sure what all the fuss is about heat. Get up at 6, have breakfast, ride for 5-7 hours, and you're in the pool relaxing, drinking beer, and telling lies by 2:00ish.

Btw if anyone has a c10 theres a nice set of hard bags on redding craigslist for months and months. Could prolly get a good deal

Gumby said:
<waaaahh!>

What's your point Gumby?

In less than half the time, without getting up as early, I will be sitting in the warm (not baking hot) sun with my toes in the surf, a beer in my hand, enjoying a cool ocean breeze. And then later, I'll be sitting next to a nice campfire. And if I feel like it, a midnight ride in the dunes. Where will you be sitting? In a baking asphalt parking lot?

I just can't justify three days of miserable heat. I had nine days of that in June. Sometimes one just has to decide what's best for himself.

Gonna miss seeing some of the NW guys. Maybe next time. Have fun. At least you won't be dodging deer hunters on Scotts Bar Road - the season doesn't open for another week, IIRC.

I'm confused.  Today is Thursday, you're going to leave tomorrow, camp somewhere before getting to Yreka and still get there tomorrow?

Nope, getting to Eureka today (Friday). I may still be camping if nobody wants me, Dan, so you might get your morning French Roast after all ;)

Most of the talkin' was done for Friday night and all the Connies were tucked in for the night.

From the top of Sawyer Bar Road just before plummeting down to the ride along the river. The smoke from the fires settling in.

Nice pics, Keith. Shame about all the smoke from the forest fires.

We had a fire, but not much smoke.  ;D

I am not sorry about blowing off the ride to go to the beach - so relaxing.  ;D

We were at the south end of the rec area between posts 5 and 6, not too many folks. Normally there'd be rigs 3 and 4 deep solid along the high tide line. Most folks were up at around posts 1 and 2, near Sand Highway. You guys need to get some dirt bikes and come down some time. I wonder how a C14 would do with sand paddles....  :)

Good times indeed!! Great roads and great night time fun, it was nice seeing ya'll again!  :great: :beerchug:

I'm glad the folks who made it had a good time.  It was truly a grass roots group effort, and the members made it a good event.  I had fun with my J-box failing, and I owe a huge Thank You to Bob Rainey, the guy who is always prepared with the right spare parts.  After a brain transplant in a parking lot my C-10 was ready to take me home, where Tim R. and I arrived sometime after midnight.
Dan Paulsen was actually the rally meister, with Steve Mustoe arranging the Super8 lodging and Bob Young, our local Yreka member, arranging everything else.  He felt obligated to show us Yreka isn't the armpit of California some folks implied it was.  Thanks, Bob. :great:

Couldn't support this statement enough. Me an Charlie had very little to do with it. Me being Jacked by the Nat and Charlie being forced to ride Europe and all. :great: BIG shout out to Dan, Steve and Bob. These are the guy's that did the work and we reaped the bennies, as well as Mike B for being the mouth piece to promote. Cannot thank them enough. Over 500 on Thurs., 300 on Fri., 100+ on Sat, 780 on Sun (through the Central Valley) to OC CA. then another 250 home on Monday. And ya know what? No what Mark, Tell us? Burn area Scott River Road one of the ride routes.

Only the lonely as the one MC camper

Scott River Road, yes smokey!

yes This was an epic rally. I also think we should have joint Rally's a little more often.

I personally got to go from cooking my legs in the heat going to Wreak to freezing my caboose off coming home.

I also found out what happens when someones J box goes bad. I think we could have figured out a way to get around the failing relay...yes relay. If only we had a place with an assortment electrical type tools to work with and more than sitting on wet grass with the book. I wonder if we gave up too soon when we couldn't get power to the starter. Might have been OK if we had a jumper wire to power the starter solenoid from the battery.

Thankfully as Charlie said in his post Bob Rainy and Bill Haley came to the rescue. It is my firm conviction Bob must of have had  problems before and packs a spare J box. The only real help I ended up being was for some reason I threw in the 2014 Membership handbook. I didn't want to get the 2015 copy dirty. From that we got Bill's phone number and address. Just because we could call Bills phone didn't mean rescue was on the way. Being typical Coggers they decided to take the long way home. Once Bill got the message, then help was on the way.

According to Charlies GPS, Bill's house was only 35 miles away and I suggested surely we could make that distance. Wrongo Bucko, I don't think we made it 300 yards the old C10 stopped running again. Fortunately it was pretty much down hill to get back to our starting point at the gas station.

Round trip for me was 1,560.1 miles which included riding around Yreaka. Over all a good trip. Even with bike problems, heat and cold I would do the trip again. Any day riding is a good day. Thanks to those who posted photo's. The pic of OMC under the no smoking sigh is priceless. TimR

I'll second these emotions.  Just made it home today to Tacoma, WA. 12 days, 1 Goldwing (hold the jeers), two rallies (Ride the Ribbon and Yreka), daytime temps ranging from 37F to 102F, rain, clouds and sun, plus a pillion spousal unit ditching me after the first week of the trip.  2,873 miles total.  :-[

Then a two day jaunt part of the way home with two new Cogger friends from Sacramento and Hawaii: Mark and Kent.  We rode up 96W to Happy Camp, remote twisties north to OR 199, then up the OR coast to Bandon for the night. Next day inland and across the state through Roseburg to 97N, then up to Sisters, OR for the night.

Thanks again SW Coggers Kent and Mark for letting me tag along for a couple days.  Home solo today including breakfast at the infamous biker bar in Detroit, OR.  I even made it back home to Fox Island, WA before rush hour.

Great ride and great organizers.  Cudos to Dan Paulson, Steve Mustoe, and Bob Young, (With honorable mentions to Mark Hartman and Charlie Gary.)  Hope to see you all at the Cooler in May 2016.  :beerchug:

Glad the J Box did not delay you long.
