my 95 connie has developed a loose valve noise when idling but goes away as i pull in the clutch. i seem to remember there being a clutch problem on some models.any ideas

Chris, The noise you hear is not related to your valves. The clutch basket is supported by a large bushing running in oil. There is a very small amount of play, and it will either rettle or growl a little bit at idle but goes away with some throttle (just going off-idle) or pulling in the clutch. It's normal and no cause for alarm. The only problem I know of is when the star spring breaks, which mine did after a day at a racetrack and heavy downshifting. I guess it happens with normal use too but I am not sure how often it occurs.
