Alternative to bar risers - anyone considered this?

Like many of you, I have experienced sore wrists due to the awkward angle/height of the handlebars, etc.  One solution that a few manufacturers have come across is bar risers that raise your bars from the triple clamp but dont alter the angle of the handgrips. Helibars has a replacement set of handlebars but they are too expensive for my taste.

I noticed today that there seems to be a rather large hex screw that holds a pipe to the stock handlebar risers.  All the controls are mounted on the outboard end of this pipe.  Has anyone considered fabricating a pipe with a couple of bends in that could replace the stock straight pipe?  This way, both the height and the angle of the grips could be easily changed without any further mods to the control hoses and wires.

I know there are several people on this forum who are amazing at fabricating these kinds of things.... how about some comments and discussion? If anyone does come up with a solution like this, I would be thrilled to be your test guinea pig!  LOL!

I see that Poverty Rock Shawn has also proposed this solution in a different thread.  Hopefully he will post more info in this one.

I myself would desire a "strait-er" bar

I have a friend with a 08' FZ-1, and the bars on it are nearly strait, but I find the bars to be very comfortable. I think the issue on the C-14 is that you would need to pull the bars back to accommodate the reach if one fabbed up a set of straighter bars to fit in the stock risers.

Braking forces could impart a rotational load to the mounting bolt unless there is an anti-rotation feature built-in to the mount. I would be vary careful about this.
