Anyone trailering or heading to the SW in August?

I was planning on leaving sometime in the first 2 weeks of august. Going to ride 3 weeks around NM, CO, UT, AZ before heading towards IN to visit family and then heading to RWTW around September 7th. Even tho I've never ride from florida to NM if I get trailered, I figured i would have an extra week out there. I would chip in gas and beer money. I could also use my truck, but it gets like 8ft to the gallon or that is what it seems like to me. Just throwing it out there.
Thanks
Rico

PS, this trip will be on the R1

Rico,
Change up the bike for a more off-road appropriate model and join us for the BDR runs in Co and UT, with a little ID and WY thrown in for good measure. We WILL be hitting some good blacktop in souther CO for sure though!
Matt

Love to, but sold my KLR.....Only time this will be going off road will be Mokee Dugway in Utah.
Please send me the info, maybe I can meet up with you all.

Rico,
We fly out to Denver ( thanks to Bill S), on the 11th. Will ride south thru Cortez and into NM then up through CO to ID and WY. Haven't really tried to nail down timing as we aren't gonna be in a rush, just going to have a awesome time and stop when we want to sightsee or eat or whatever. I have a new 1.5 gallon auxilliary tank in the KTM now so no need to carry a fuel container as I have almost 280 mile range now.  :great:

Matt

You getting your bikes shipped out there? I looked at mine getting shipped out there and it would be $500 plus airline ticket. It would be $500 in gas round trip on my truck, but then I would have to cancel visiting family and heading out to RWTW directly, or heading out to Suches early, leaving the truck and heading north for a short stay. Still considering my options.

Rico,
We have arranged for 2 way shipping from depot to depot. $2400 or so for two bikes.  NOT with U-Ship!  :-[

Matt

NM and AZ in August?  Hope you like warm.  Co is better but only if you stay at elevation.  My exp. says you almost always have to come down for something and it can be hot even at 5k amsl  I would do it but by only riding in the mornings mainly.

I don't mind the heat during the day...up to 95 or so, as long as it isn't humid. Its the nights I am worried about. Either too hot to sleep or to cold to live...lol

Hotels have A/C!! we will be using them very sparingly to get laundry done and shower once in a while as well. No reason to sweat to death AND not sleep!
Matt

Bought a C14 and still want to take a long trip on the R1?!

Ill be out west this summer - trailering 3 bikes and a million other things so can't help you get out there but maybe we can hang/ride.

Think about putting bags on your SV and riding like that around the SW! LOL

Ill have it with me ! Praying for a track day and friendly park rangers this summer  :)) Might install a head light and tail light with quick disconnects bc i know ill ride her around the parks. Betty stays home - the SV and MiniZ weigh less combined😱. Also bringing Luna for 2-up riding and will enter her in some bike shows - she's only 400lbs and a blast to ride. All good - i rode my Connie to the west coast twice and once on a klr - shouldnt miss Betty too bad this time around.

Can you send me some dates, maybe we can meet up.
There is a possibility I may drive the truck to Albuquerque and do the ride and drive back.

Im working on the calendar now -

So far we will be Tahoe around July 4th cooking for the rich the week before and after.

Utah the weekend of the 12th for the BMW MOA national - omelet bar in the mornings and vending all day each day there.

I am waiting for some replies from other events. There are a couple of jewelry trade shows we are hoping to attend. We want to work every weekend and ride or hike every week day we are out west :great:

We will definitely stay in touch  :beerchug:

Hey guys, I'll be leaving FL around August 2nd and heading up to a skydive event in Western Montana. Was planning a bit more of a Northern route but if it isn't too warm I might consider a little bit of a Southern start. Rico, if you are riding you are welcome to join me. Fais, I'll try to see where you are when I head out and possibly see you on the trip! I'm really looking forward to getting out West again! I am attending the 50th Lost Prairie Boogie in Marion MT. The event goes from Aug 5th to 12th I should be there for most of it but since I'm on the bike I'll miss a few days and will probably tour around a bit during the week.

What is your average miles a day? I'm still getting over some bad pain to my elbows after an accident at my old job. I haven't been riding much lately. It's been almost a year since my accident. I also wanted to take the R1, but that is not 100% since my injuries. What part of florida?

I now have a few dental operations planned for June in Ecuador - still heading west for July 4 in Tahoe and various rallies and trade shows after. I would like to see Matt and Dave off on their BDR trip in Aug. Who knows - maybe ride with them or trail behind in my FJ.... even if just for a portion of it.

My girl prioritized my dental situation - 12 procedures done since '09 and 3 more to go - will almost be like I didn't have shit for parents growing up lol

This is Dave from Fellsmere by the way,
I will probably shoot for around 700 miles a day. Ill probably leave from work in West Palm and shoot for the pan handle on the Aug 2nd if I'm doing a southern route and then head towards Dallas then Denver then on up to Montana.

Dude, If you can get to Lost Prairie (Meadow Peak Skydiving) August 5th to 12th I can put you together with one of my jumpmaster friends who will be there. It is quite an event and although I like the view from my home drop zone in Sebastian, the views in Montana are spectacular. I think the two of you would have a great time there!

DAVE!!! lol
Always hard to tell who is who on websites and in person....two different names, when I have enough trouble remembering one! LOL
I think i would actually be slowing you down. I think I can actually manage about 500 miles a day if I take the concours, which is looking more and more likely. What route are you taking? Get me a nice route map to Denver, Maybe I can meet you at the panhandle and ride with you for a day, or all the way there! We need to talk more. I'm going to doctors in 5 min and hopefully to a specialist soon and they can help me fix this problem before aug! I have no plans on a route to take out to Denver as of know. I think I would do a lot better riding with someone as well.

Oh yeah, I never got back to you about the BMW because I quit my job....boss was kind of a smart ass to me and I couldn't take it. Maybe we should consider a camping weekend at your house and me and you put that sucker back together!

Hey Dave, How long do you plan on staying? I'm actually considering going with you all the way, then heading to Glacier National, Yellow Stone, Grand Teton, Badlands, see North and South Dakotas, before heading south to see family in Steam Boat Co and Albuquerque NM, friends in Denver and Colorado Springs. I was planning this trip for the following year or the one after, but maybe I'll do this one first.

I PMed you my # to discuss more.

Not much of an update, Plans changed a little, I'll be heading to RWDW first and hanging out before heading west. Not going to go as far north as I wanted, but I will leave the North West for next year on the Concours. Anyone else heading West in September?
